|
|
Hi All,
First post to the Site.
Just come back from holiday touring the Peak District using a friends TomTom One. I didn't bother using my RAC unit as it isn't as flexible.
The TomTom has far better software than the RAC.
Could I purchase TomTom mapping & remove the Route 66 software?
The RAC runs on Windows CE.Net 4.2.
Cheers. |

TomTom may not run on Windows CE. You may have to install some of the Pocket PC DLLs (like on the Mio C710 etc), and things like volume control may not work at all. _________________ Lutz

Hi
I didn't realise it could be a problem,I'm new to this subject. Are there any other decent software packages I could purchase (Garmin etc)? To be honest I've just bought the RAC from a guy at work after being advised to buy a new Garmin or TomTom & am relucatant to buy a new unit. The wife will kill me!!!!!
I didn't do enough research. |

You can start with some easy software like PrymeNav or Sygic before targeting the heavyweights (TomTom, Garmin).
Unfortunately most of the programs do not come with a trial mode which would be exactly what you need - the opportunity to try it out.
Maybe some other RAC owner can chime in. _________________ Lutz

As I responded to your post on USENET, hacking a WinCE unit is not as simple as it may appear and as you also need to buy a legitimate copy of software as well you'd be better off selling the RAC unit and buying a TomTom ONE.
It's not just TomTom that would be difficult to install, it's the hacking of the unit to allow other software to be installed that is the issue. _________________ Darren Griffin |
