Brand new Navman N40i, software locking up PC

Hello, i'm hoping that somebody can help.

Just received an N40i Navman unit, and i have installed the SmartST 2006 SE software and updated it. Pretty much every time i connect my Navman unit and try to update it, my whole laptop locks up. I can move the mouse and music / videos carry on playing but nothing else works, cant open anything, cant close anything down and ctrl alt delete wont work.

Only way for me to sort it is a hard reboot by holding down the power button.

Does anybody have any idea how to sort this problem? Having just bought the satnav and the speed camera subscription i really dont want to have wasted my money.

Im running XP sp2, 2gb ram, dual core core duo Acer laptop - Travelmate 8024 WMLi
