I have tried to store my current gps position to my favourites but the 720 just won't have it, yet my 920 does it without any problems at all, if anyone has any suggestions I would very much appreciate it, or is this a software glitch? |

I take it you mean the 910 does it?
Only reason I can think of is lack of GPS signal. My 720 does it perfectly. _________________ Dennis

Or possibly, are you off road and it can't snap to it? _________________ Dennis

Yes the 910 does it no problem, only the 720 is causing me a problem, in theory it should add my current position wherever I am, as does the 910, although the 910 can be grouchy if it is on an 'unnamed road' |

The other day I was taken to a destination by a friend and may in the future have to go on my own. It was an exteremely complicated route to a point out in the sticks that does not have a postcode. If I had taken my Go300 would I have been able to enter and save the position in it so that I can find the place next time? If not, what is the next unit up the ladder where I can do that? _________________ Bazzza

Or as a Favourite too.
And if you're the memory king, you could even now Add Favourite (or POI) from Point on Map. An easy way to do this is to Browse Map to where you went and zoom right in and get your cursor where it wants to be, then Done and come back out. Then Add Favourite, Point on Map and you'll find your cursor is still there to use as the point. There may be some magical quicker way of doing this (like omitting the original Browse Map, but I find that a bit hit and more often Miss!), but this way works lovely for me. You could get the same resulting navigation directions by Navigate to Point on Map. But of course, you were blindfolded part of the way, have a lousy memory and feel really sad you never tried it at the time! Next time, eh? _________________ Dennis

Hi Bazza
Are you the same Bazza that used to run Tomtom Navigator on a PDA. I still use TT5 and saving a location is a piece of cake. When parking in a strange city I always safe the position on the map into Favourites. Its saved me looking a Twit many times. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Hi Trevor,
Not me I'm afraid. But that's good advice. It would have saved me from tramping round the streets of Aachen in Germany for 2 hours trying to find the car that I had parked on the street with a clock at the end. I didn't know that nearly every street had a clock at the end. _________________ Bazzza

I would have a read of THIS Thread from last year for a simple explanation and confirmation of how to store an off map / off road location and expect the Nav unit to reliably route you back to it.
You can use any option at all IF you are on the map when doing so, if you are off the map in a field or the area simply isn't mapped (airfields are a good example, but there are plenty of others) only the point on map or Lat/ Long will reliably produce a navigable route to the nearest known road to your stored location - Mike |

Tried to add my work car parking space as a favourite but it was not accepted as I guess too far from the last reported road.
I guess easiest best option is to add as a favourite just before you go 'off road'. |

Tried that, and the 720 locked up, and completely lost my 'Quick Menu'
Had to hold the power button for several seconds to reset it.
This is after the 7.010 update. |
