Hi
I have just updated the camera database for my garmin c510 . Is there any way of telling if the new database has loaded ?. The poi loader says successfully completed but I am unable to open files from the gps on the PC ( windows cannot open and needs to know what program created it etc ) How can the files be opened to check ?
many thanks

Looks like nobody loves you, Laughing Out Loud, no replies. just a thought, can you delete one of the cameras from your sat nav, I don't know much about your sat nav, thats why I ask. If you can, just deleate one camera, in a known position, update the camera database, and it should put the camera back again. The reason you cant open the camera files on the PC, is because they are designed to be read by the sat nav, not a pc, so the pc doesn't know what to do with them.

The easiest way is to go for a drive towards a know local camera.

Page 27 of the manual states you should see them if you

That won't tell him if they've been UPDATED though Paul...

Tanda's idea looks good though.

Incidently, lerch, there are several programs that can open the POI files in various formats and show you all the entries (POI Edit is a good one). But that still won't directly tell you the date it was made, unless it is written into the header information (which it isn't AFAIK).
What you could do is check the overall file size, or the total no. of entries in POI edit. You can safely assume the number of cameras isn't getting any smaller!!
If you are using the speed-zoned set, check the number of entries for (say) the mobile:40 category as it's a safe bet that that one keeps growing too.

Well as POILoader first wipes out all the POIs in the unit it should tell you it worked. Or should you also check to see if POILoader also deleted the old database first? I think after all this time if POILoader says it has successfully updated the unit it has done. Never seen a case yet where it says Successfully Updated but it hasn't....

Another way. Load the database once, make a note of the number of POIs that were loaded, next time you load the database see if the number is different......

Thanks for the replies , some good advice.
It just so happens I was out for a drive at the weekend and came across a mobile camera warning that I know wasn't there before the new update so it looks like all updated successfully.
