|
|
Hi
I did see a posting a while ago about someone having made a heavy weighted dash mounting, but I have recently bought a 'door stop' from Lidls which is brilliant to mount my Tom Tom on, as it means I dont have to stick it to the glass (no tell tail marks for burglars!) and it will sit more places than just the windscreen. It was only £2.99. We managed to get an all black one, which also means less windscreen reflections (if used on the dash). It also saves wear and tear on the sucker, as you just stick it on the door stop and leave it (although we do release the pressure from time to time)
It is also then very easy to 'hide' if in a 'dodgy area'. I dont think Lidls have them now, but i am sure you can get one else where.
I cant for the life of me see how to add a pic, so if someone lets me know I can do it.

Like on most forums, you can't add a picture directly to a post.
What you have to do is upload it to somewhere on the web first. Most ISPs give you a little bit of free webspace you can use, or you can try one of the free photo storage sites.
You then have to add a link to it in your post by using the "IMG" button in the row at the top of the window when you're writing a post. Click it once, then type (or easier - paste) the full web address, and then click it again.
That will give you some text that looks like this:
{img}http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/frontnews/gatso.gif{/img}
(but with square brackets instead of curly)
The picture has to be in .jpg or .gif format.
Do a preview of your post before you send it and if all is well, the picture should appear. |

Uhm,not too sure about having a lump of 1.25 Kgs sitting loose on the dash board ...I would hate to be wearing one as a smile in the case of a bump.

I understand what you are saying, but we have used it very successfully with our new 2.2 L Mondeo with no ill effects and we doing 80 mph in France.
It is only a suggestion afterall, which we find much better than sticking it onto the dash, for the reasons I explained originally.

Just as an aside (well it made me laugh...)
I was in Halfords last night and they had a display cabinet full of lots of different sat-navs.
All of the TomToms had little display stands with a dome a bit like the picture above for the mount to stick on. Unfortunately all the suckers had lost their suction and the TomToms were lying forlornly on their faces like dead beetles!
Not a good advert! |

I have no doubt as to its stablity during normal driving as you have proved but I was merely pointing out that given its weight it could be a potential hazard in an accident and not all people may have thought of that..Sorry if my input has upset you but its my years of working for the American Government and their health and safety policies that have turned my mind.

Speed isn't really the point. Do an emergency stop though at that speed and you'll have a heavy item, effectively with its mass enhanced many times (around 800 joules) hurtling forwards. |

Certainly looks the same thing to me,even the weight is similar and Lidl sell them in chrome as well as black. Look at his feedback to see how many he has sold.

Or, we always have one of these....
http://www.buybits.com/product/sku_tt-adjust-kspecial-v1-vent.aspx
Dash vent mount. Okay, it'll cost you 17£, but it certainly does the job, holds the unit securely, and makes it more accessible, without having to lean forward over the dashboard.
VERY speedy service, and "does what it says on the box"
(NOT associated in any way, just a very pleased recent customer)
Cheers
