professional help needed badly. i bought ppc, e-ten x500 with buil-in gps. after changing the rom to wm6 (official rom, from the e-ten site) all my gps progs died on me.
for example my i-go detects my gps on com 4, 57600 and even can see the satellite's number 20,10,25,27,etc but i don't have any signal. mt ppc has a blue light that during that if the gps is ok is blinking every two sec twice fast. this is a good sign, it means that the gps is working.
i tried everything. i even got back to wm5. nothing happ.
and another thing. from my previous ppc an i-mate i have a bluetooth-enabled GPS unit. the unit is very fast and nicely connects to my x500 on com2. the connection and the reception is less than 5 sec.
when i return to my internal gps....nothing. only the blue led blinking.
i tried sirfdemo ppc and sirftech and navigator and..and.. i am not so sure what i have to do with those progs and i am too afraid to try and change something(i've read lots of warnings about miss using this tools).
some ppl think that is a hardware related problem, maybe a disconnected antenna. more info on http://eten-users.eu/index.php?showtopic=9776
the gps unit is a cirocomm 576c. found cirocomm on google but i didn't find the specs for the particular 576c.
don't know what is the policy here and i hope i am not offending anyone but sure like a hell i am willing to donate a few bucks to get my gps my back.
i put all my hopes in you.

Having read through the thread on the Eten forum it looks like you have tried most things, a number of people mention about switching it from SiRF to NMEA mode, I find This Method works best.

If your GPS is "assisted" it will know the sat numbers that should be in view, so it might be displaying the numbers without seeing anything. It is strange that an upgrade to WM6 can kill the receiver, another ill thought out and little tested ROM?? - try the SiRF to NMEA switch I have linked to and let us know any progress - Mike

thank you for your time and desire to help. greatly appreciated.
using winfast navigator:
1. port settings :com4, 57600 (all gps programs are detecting my internal gps on this port, at this baudrate)
2.command/initialize: factory
3.command/nmea
-gga:1
-gll:0
-gsa:5
-gsv:5
-rmc:1
-vtg:1
-mss:0
-user (all 3):0
3.command/sirf:
-baudrate:57600
-data bit 8
-stop bit: 1
-parity:N
Factory allways bring me back to nmea, com4, 57600 and......./UNFIXED.
the little blue dot is pulsating.

That is a real shame that its a typo as I thought that might have been the fault!
The driver I have suggested is the one I know works reliably to switch from SiRF to NMEA, quite a few of the others don't perform as well or leave the device in SiRF - its a simple standalone application that was used by thousands when TomTom version 2 and 3 were in use, it works fine on both WM2005 and WM6 OS - Mike

When on the status page there is a picture of a sat dish with some some animated dots running to a PDA (middle right of the screen) - are these stationary or moving, the movement indicaties communication.

Try selecting SiRF at 57600 see if that gets the com working, also make sure on the GPS tab the picture of a PDA middle left isn't Blue with Z's on the screen (Sleep mode), use the slider next to it so it shows a pair of red hands - Mike

It would look like the device has died, if its under waranty I would send it back - it might be a coincidence that the GPS packed in when you upgraded to WM6, or the ROM you have been issued with is faulty, how many others have reported a dead GPS following upgrade?

Can you have a look in the GPS applet, probably in settings/ system tab, and list down what the values are for the following:

Programs Tab
Hardware Tab
Access Tab

right now:
gps program port; com2
gps hardware port: com4/baud rate 57600
access: manage gps automatically (tried also with this option off-no change)

i have an eachy finger begging me to open the unit but this will void the guaranty and i'll have not a chance in hell to return it.
i have a pdf file "x500 stripped" where i can clearly see the gps unit ciricomm 576C. faulty unit? faulty soldering?
my ppc didn't yet suffer from any shock (this might happ very soon and i fearing for the wall not for the ppc, Laughing Out Loud)
if u r interested i can upload the pdf doc somewhere.
i also looked for a backup batery (the famous discharged/return to the factory settings solution) but i can't see one.
