|
|
Hello,
I am new to the world of POIs but in the last few months I checked many of them and the kind of info they provide. They are very useful indeed but I was wondering if there would be a way to give more info about POIs.
For example, I am the owner of a landmarks guides website and I would be happy if I could add a short history of the monument you are passing by instead of just the name and rating.
Is that possible and useful? I hope to open an interesting conversation about it. Thanks. |

the new garmins have a tourguide feature where as you pass a point it can display a picture and play audio related to the poi.
info here:

Hey thanks for the tip!
Do other companies like Tom Tom, etc, have similar programs? |

I was thinking of a similar thing, as you drive past a buillding or monument, you get a POI with a description.
It would be nice to have this function, even as a POI, but i dont think current tomtom's have the ability to display text or read aloud what it is you're passing. |

Thanks Deus. That's exactly what I would like.
It would be nicer if there was an universal format but I guess it's not going to happen. |

Check out www.geovative.com From there, you can easily create your own location POIs and associate audio, images, and text to each location. Then you can download the tour into a number of formats and devices, including Garmin iQues, StreetPilots, Nuvis, Zumos, as well as standard PDA/Smartphones or MP3 players.
This is about as close as you'll get to a universal format with support for a multitude of devices at the moment. For a full list of supported devices, click here. |
