|
|
Orange have a ROM update on their website which will update the software in your SPV M3100 to AKU 3.0.
It contains some good stuff - BUT BE WARNED !!
The update removes DUN and replaces it with Internet Sharing via a Bluetooth PAN (Personal Area Network) protocol.
My TT 910 now cannot connect to the M3100 for wireless data, denying me access to my Plus services (Traffic, updates, etc). Handsfree obviously still works fine but no more data!
Having spoken with TomTom the expected response was that they don't support the M3100 (which used to work just fine with my 910) and didn't really have a clue about Internet Sharing via Bluetooth PAN - never heard of it !! (Why was I not surprised )
I guess until TomTom enables wirless connections to the 910 via this different protocol I'd hold off updating your M3100.

I fell into the same trap.
The problem is really Microsoft who deleted the support for Bluetooth Dial Up Networking from the new version of the Windows Mobile software. From what I can understand this was done on some techy purist grounds, with no consideration of the impact on their customers (Bluetooth PAN is apparently a much more elegant solution - it just doesn't work). I understand that they are putting it back in the next version (WM6) but it could be months before Orange make this available for the M3100 (if indeed they ever do).
I have complained to Orange and asked what they were going to do about it. They didn't reply. |

This is a common problem with all Windows Mobile 6 devices/upgrades.
Lets hope that TomTom include support for this type of dialup feature very soon. |

After this update my M3100 is still on WM5 (not 6), it's just the AKU that has changed to V3. I would have been more careful if the upgrade had been by a whole version number, but I though as the device will remain on V5 it should be ok.
The blog makes your eyes weep, doesn't it Lutz! Just the usual ping-pong of responsibility, with the end user stuck in the middle.
Anybody know whether the new TT720 can handle this PAN protocol or is it also stuck on DUN?. I'm thinking of ordering one but might wait if this is not the case.
Thanks
