New Sat Nav????

I currently own a Dell Axim with tomtom 5 software and hardwired GPS cradle which is bulky and quite messy.
I would like to get a smaller tidier system. I am thinking of either an all in one system or maybe a mobile phone/pda with bluetooth receiver.

I'm looking for advice / recommendations on the cheapest option (It must be able to use the speed camera database)

The first question is do you need a PocketPC? Do you use it for anything other than TomTom?

Have a look at the O2 XDA Orbit or T-Mobile MDA Compact III these PDA based phones are a nice size and run TomTom or most other Navigation software, they also have integral GPS receivers so you don't need the extra unit.
I have both TomTom 6 and Route 66 running on my Artemis, both software packages work well with the Speed Camera warnings giving true spoken alerts of the camera type and speed limit when configured correctly.
If you search for P3300 Artemis you will find information on the above suggestions as they are both based on the Artemis, if WiFi is important get an Artemis or Orbit, if WiFi isn't important the Compact III is fine as they (T-Mobile) removed the hardware.
Nice devices and with a Brodit holder in the car they function very well, you will find information on the units in the Windows PPC Mobile forum section.
Since getting the T-Mobile unit with the Web-N-Walk bolt on for unlimited internet access I don't miss the WiFi to be honest - Mike

Also - do you really want to go to a smaller - non-touch screen? In my opinion the larger the screen - the better it is to use. that is you can glance at the screen quickly when driving and get the information you want (usually concernming the next turn).

I guess you could get a similar size PDA/phone/gps all-in-one unit - but that's going to cost. Also be careful there are some systems (e.g. Nokia N95 - where TT cannot use the inbuilt GPS (yet).

thanks for the quick responses.

I only use the PDA for sat nav and if it had bluetooth would probably keep it and get a bluetooth receiver.

I was looking at the smart phones, as I have seen tomtom on a vario and it works quite well, but the issue there is the price, the cheapest I found was on orange at £20 a month which is £240 for the year.
For far less than £240 I can buy an all-in-one GPS, or a new PDA and bluetooth + use my tomtom software so I ruled out a smartfone because of the cost and the size.

Has anyone had experience of the MIO 210? they are on Ebay for under £100 with speed cameras incorporated and the ability to add POI's

As you only want the device for navigaton I would take a look at the TomTom One - easy to use and its a single box solution to your problem, if the information in This Thread is accurate an early morning shopping trip might be in order to grab a bargain (and it uses the Speed Camera database) - Mike
