Hi,

I recently deceided that I could not live without GPS for a second longer, so went about acquiring the kit. I've spent the last month navigating through the thick jungle that is GPS purchase. To date I have accumulated:

An IPAQ hp1940 PDA (Bluetooth)
A Fortuna Bluetooth GPS receiver.

Now, the hard part - software.

I want mapping software that will go down to sufficient detail to suit walking trips (rural and urban), that has comaptible city maps available, but that is also suitable for use while driving. Spoken or visual direction indicators would be an advantage, but are not really essential.

Oh, I don't really want to spend more than about 150 quid (GBP).

So, can anyone help this clueless newb?

Thanks,

Dazzla.

Your stated requirements are not covered by one single application. For the walking maps if treks across open country are a requirement you would best be served by an application such as Memory-Map.

Navigation applications such as TomTom Navigator will work equally well in-car or pedestrian mode for travels around towns and cities etc but have no off-road coverage so are of no use for following footpaths cross country or up and down mountainsides!

So I will need to but two applications? Ok, thanks. That's not a problem. City/Street mapping is my priority anyway. TBH, TomTom was my first choice but I wasn't able to ascertain with any certainty whether it was compatible with the hp1940.

Thanks again.

Dazzla.

Thank you very much for your help Darren, lbendlin. I'm going to buy Tomtom, I think.

Cheers,

Your namesake.
