Travelling back from 'up North' last night, I passed the stretch of the M42 (NEC down to the M40) with the variable speed cams. My TT6 showed some of them as variable and some gantries as a 70 gatso. Can a regular user of this stretch confirm for me whether this is correct ?

IIRC, if there's a variable speed indicator on the side of the gantry facing the traffic any camera on the other side is for enforcement of the variable speed.

That sounds wrong to me, have you got the TomTom camera files installed on the unit in addition to the POI files from this site? if you have this is as good a reason as any to remove them - Mike

Thanks Mike...yes, I have, and it was the TT ones that showed up. Do I assume that If I delete them, this sites POI's would show the whole stretch of motorway as variable ?

If you delete the TomTom camera files and just use the ones from this site your camera warnings will reflect the true conditions for that stretch of motorway, as well as other roads in the UK. Not all the warnings will be variable as there maybe some mobiles and of course any future roadworks might introduce additional Gatso or Specs units.
Have a look at the FAQ page in the TomTom One, Rider, Go forum section, specifically #13 which details the removal of the offending items - Mike

I live local to J6 of the M42 and can confirm that variable speeds are imposed at peak times, also dependant on traffic flow. Normally when below 70 speed limits are required the amount of traffic means speeding is almost impossible.

Sorry...just to double check things here...regardless of whether the variable cameras are 'on' or 'off' while travelling along the M42 or M25,or regardless of the speed limit they may be showing, I should only 'see' or 'be warned' of the variable cameras, by the round , black variable display used by this site on my TT screen ?

You may get other warnings through the variable speed limit sections, occasionally the unit might warn of a camera on a close adjacent road. But in general you only get the variable speed camera warning through these sections of road where a camera is known to exist - Mike
