I know it takes money to run the site, but is the "latest" edition to the advert campaign REALLY neccessary ??
We now have external adverts along the top, down the right, across the bottom .. and low and behold .. I now see an advert as the "second post" in every thread.
Combine those with the "internal" adverts on the left and we soon won't have much room to actually read any posts !
I also wonder just how little revenue this "new" insert will actually achieve.. in comparison to its "annoyance" factor.
Whinge over ... keep up the good work ..

sigh... do a search and you'll see the trial ends today.
Am i the only one not offended or upset by the adverts? Is everyone really that precious? |

I don't mind them as a separate post, but didn't like them being attached to the second post on every page. _________________ Tim |

Quote: | sigh...it would seem so judging by the other thread. You enjoy the pretty pictures, meanwhile others will just stop them with their AdBlocker. Suits everyone. |
It's not a matter of "enjoy[ing] the pretty pictures" but the fact that they are not that obtrusive. The site costs money to run and that's raised by advertising. It doesn't seem to slow anything down. I feel sometimes people want all web sites to be run for free without adverting and these people have no idea how much a popular website can cost to run. |

It is not a case of raising revenue to pay for the site, i don't think anyone has an arguement with that, it is just where the advert's are on the page.
I tried to read a comment left by oldboy on another thread and gave up, as the advert was within his post and had not only squashed his text to the left but had reduced it in size.
Also having the adverts in the post area distracts from reading, as some of the adverts seem to flash.
Are 15" monitors still standard to computers, i thought most people would have a larger screen.
The web site has been made for 15" monitors maybe it can be widened to accommodate the more usual 17" monitor, that will give 4.25" (110mm) advert space extra to each page on the width. _________________ TomTom Go 60

the early versions of the adverts were WITHIN the posts however this was changed very quickly to put them as a separate post.
to be honest, after even just a few days they don't bother me!

Adverts are everywhere to tell people about your products services etc :D
Even on your tomtom 910 there is an advert about TOMTOM TRAFFIC PLUS SERVICES 8O
Anyone know how to get rid of it ive tried it out and don't wish to use PLUS SERVICES ,it comes up after plotting so many routes i think :D Gets on your nerves with the amount of routes i plan every day,see it a good few times in 1 shift
I DONT mind seeing ads on Pocket gps as its a very popular site and must cost a lot to run, sometimes i click on them as they may interest me,they are all gps related :D so i'm for them! |

Change Preferences/ Show tips once you tap this no further tips should display the icon will appear with a red X over it showing it is disabled, you shouldn't get anymore adverts of speed cameras on the 910 unless you are using their database - Mike |

I did .. and a search on adverts (78 threads) or advertising (321 threads) finds nothing that "appears" to fit whilst "scanning" the titles.
I'm so sorry that my simple comment causes you so much angst .. but unfortunately .. unlike you .. I failed the mind-reading course.
I'll just remember never to ask a question just in case it has already been raised and I missed it in the myriad of posts on the site.... either that or the question will be out-of-date by the time I have read all 313136 articles presently on site.
I'd like to thank you for your help in directing me to the correct place ... but then .. as you didn't , I can't .. so I still remain uneducated.
But I expect you don't really care .. sorry to have disturbed you by being "precious".

@ Mullett
Thank you for your very helpful answer which explains why I, and probably a lot of others, cannot read the relevant article
It is unfortunate that our inability to access some parts of the site leads to patronising comment from others, but as previously stated .. I failed the mind-reading course
I apologise for being a "2nd Class" member of the site.

We see you’re using an ad-blocker. We’re fine with that and won’t stop you visiting the site.
Have you considered making a donation towards website running costs?. Or you could disable your ad-blocker for this site. We think you’ll find our adverts are not overbearing!
