|
|
After the manufacturers of Monitron went bust some time ago, a new company called RedSpeed rose out of their ashes.

So does that not mean we should be a calling these camera's "RedSpeeds" instead of "Monitrons"...? |

hmmm... good question...
'redspeed' as a description would imply it should be near traffic lights even though they're not always...

True. But if the manufacturer calls the cameras "redspeed" then I guess it's best that we use that name.
Having a special category for them is a good idea, motorists could potentially score 6 points if the speed through a red light with one of these monitoring it and they are digital so there is no second chances. Kerching! Double your money! Double your points!
Before we go off on a tangent here, I don't exceeded the speed limit or run red lights. I use the database solely for academic purposes and to observe the location of accident black spots. There, I've said it. Now hopefully we can stay away from discussions about the morality of the database and a contentious red light vs speed cameras debate. _________________ Gone fishing! |

i was under the impression that once the lights are on red it switches to 'redlight' mode and once lights go up to amber/green then it is in 'speed camera' mode?
or are my assumptions just a figment of my imagination? (could be as i've never come across a redspeed redlight & speed camera before)

That was my understanding too, MaFt. Maybe my imagination's got figments too. _________________ Anita

I presumed that they could score "double points", but I must admit that I don't have any evidence to prove it! I couldn't see the authorities missing the opportunity to double their money if they could. :x
Existing red light cameras detect your speed but only to verify that you were doing a fair speed when you passed through the intersection. If you are travelling slowly then they don't flash. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Can they operate as Speed Cameras when there are no road marking to verify the camera? |

again, this is just my understanding, but i'm sure i read or heard somewhere that the digital cams can 'superimpose' the lines on the road for the picture. not sure how true this is though as i suspect it'd be VERY hard to guarantee their accuracy with bumps etc in the road...

YOU may not want an obfuscations download file, Dennis, but some of us do. What happened to democracy? I think we should have a vote on both the obfuscations and figments download files, whether they're verified or not!! _________________ Anita

this thread has gone incredibly off-topic...
so here's a dog in a dress - if it could talk it'd be saying 'get back on topic'
