Hi All,
Going on a family holiday mid July to Florida, then Toronto, Niagara Falls and a drive across New York State to the Big Apple. As the second part involves a lot of driving, i am looking for a GPS unit, with USA Maps naturally.
Work has kindly provided me with a TomTom 700, but I am loathe to take that as, should the worst happen (again) I - or my insurance - will be hit with replacement.
Thinking about a Tomtom 900, as it has USA maps already, but wondered what thoughts any one else might wish to share...

I have read mostly (if not only) good things about the 910. The main sell there is that it has TTS (text-to-speech) and Bluetooth. Also, it uses Tele Atlas maps, which are great - you will not get lost.
It's a serious sat-nav device - although I have never used it, so I can only go on the reviews I've read.
For a short trip, don't get too hung up on anything in particular, as long as it's core functions (look uup adress, calculate route and guidence) work you can put up with less than optimal extra features.
You can't go wrong with Tom Tom, Navman, or Garmin units - the core functions will be good. I would stick to one of those brands or second tier such as Magellan and Cobra that have been around in the USA for a number of years. Look for the age of the unit - the more recent will be better, but one thats a couple of years old would be fine, just missing the 'fluff' they now have. Much older than that and you may find core functions lacking.
