Am I right in thinking that, despite having purchased a brand new 910 a couple of months ago, the only way I can get an up to date map that includes the updated London congestion charge zone is by paying TomTom 110 euros for the privilege of downloading one?

Thats the same as the TomTom ONE, I have just bought it, and it has the old maps, people have complained to TomTom, and they have given them a free upgrade, but I think there is a time period involved, if you bought it recently, it looks like you will get one, but weather they call "a couple of months", recent, I don't know. 110 euros for maps for a device that’s registered and been purchased not one quarter previously? You’re having a giraffe. They should be providing free updates for the lifetime of the warranty, as most manufacturers do. Especially as they must be raking it in from their “traffic update” service, which I spent 50 euros on and is, frankly, wildly inaccurate at best, and downright laughable at worst, in London and SE at least. I’ve ceased to pay any attention to its traffic information, unless it’s a specific accident, as I’ve found it tells porkies 9 out of 10 times. The M4 and M25 traffic info is a joke, and it quite often has a hizzy fit over SE London, recently describing a 3 minute delay at Clapham as 172 minutes worth of hassle.
I’ll see what they have to say for themselves by email and action, but unless they start acting like a modern supplier I’m not going to be giving them any more of my hard earned, and I’ll be encouraging everyone I know to do likewise. The 910 is a nice enough device, but it’s too fragile, the docking mount is rubbish (even the "improved" design), and I dread to think how many warranty claims I’m going to have to make if the first 2 months of ownership are anything to go by, such is the shoddy build quality. If anything, it’s a step backwards from the TomTom ONE I had previously. Are all free-standing sat nav systems this badly built? What do people consider to be the current top of the line?

Excuse me? Have I not been logging onto your server since the day I bought the thing 2 months ago, and registered online? With a uniquely identifiable serial number and product ID? Have you no record of the hassles I've already had with your -poor "customer support" and "repair" departments, both of which need shooting. 3 weeks to admit fault when it was crystal clear their screen wasn't up to snuff.
This is rapidly becoming a farce. This lot couldn't run a whelk stall, let alone a business. If it was a £30 DVD player I'd be a bit miffed - for a £300 electronic device it's a joke.
1. No chance on updated maps, despite them bringing them out only a fews days after I purchased the unit.
2. No replacement bracket unless I can send them a credit card statement - since I bank online only, this is not possible, despite me sending them the transaction details.
So, from here on in, I'll be buying other sat nav products, and be urging everyone I know to avoid TomTom like the plague. The single most useless company I've dealt with in quite some time.
If you bank on line, go to the statement with the transaction you need and print it out. Worked for me.
They have the transaction number - this can be cross-checked against their CC records, but they can't be bothered. Stuff em - my money's going elsewhere from here on in.
Thanks for the advice though - one of their emails appears to say they won't accept that anyway.

Well many of us have had sucess getting new maps for recently purchased devices out of TT. I emailed them a scan of the reciept with the device serial number and got a new mount too.
They turned down my politely worded request for a map flat without even asking for proof of purchase. The PoP argument was over their crappy mount.
I've gone and bought a replacement mount for the moment - frankly, my time's worth more than the cost of a mount (£30) vs faffing about with a bunch of unhelpful, unprofessional clowns.
Once someone else comes out with a unit that offers the same functionality I'll buy one, and henceforth anyone who asks me what TomTom are like will be informed.
