|
|
Hi all,
Going on holiday next week to Mallorca and we are hiring a car. I am wondering whether to get the new map of Western Europe to get me around mallorca? I have a Go 500 which is 18 months old and only has the major roads in Europe on it, so I have already checked Mallorca on this and it is not sufficient.
Does the new (or old for that matter) map of Western Europe cover Mallorca in detail? For example, we are staying in Sa Coma so would it be able to navigate from the airport to Sa Coma or is there not enough detail?
thnaks!! |

Western Europe v675 (944Mb) has
Camino de Caubet
Calle de Olivera
Calle de Garrover
with some unnamed roads in amongst them.
Western & Central Europe v675 (1.7GB) has
the same, plus a few more unnamed roads south or southwest of the above, coming off the MA2030 _________________ Dennis

Thanks for the prompt response. The roads you refer to (according to Google Maps) are in a different "Sa Coma"!! I can see an "Urbanitzacio sa Coma" but this is near to Palma. The "Sa Coma" I am referring to is on the North East Coast near Cala Millor. I am wondering if the Tom Tom has this Sa Coma as part of S'illot as this seems to be the case with Google. |

I've been using TomTom maps from 2005 a couple of weeks ago on Mallorca. You can find almost everything. There are some roundabouts and some newly build Motorways are not on the maps but it works anyway. One problem is that some names of "Urbanizaciones" and blocks and buildings are not official and therefore not on the maps. One place could be called "Rocas Roja" but on the map its "Avenida de san Miguel de la vasques bla bla" something like that. Try to find an official streetnam near "sa coma"
I have been to Mallorca 15 times and haven't been lost yet |

I can see streets in S'Illot and Cala Millor, but no place called Sa Coma nearby.
Do you have a street name? The area seems quite detailed on my v6.75 Western & Central Europe map. Can't speak for the detail on the Western Europe map which is reputed to have a lot less detail than the W&CE map. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Jut found sa Coma on the www.viamichelin.co.uk map with s'Illot to the south. But, when I zoom in to street level, sa Coma disappears and s'Illot moves north and takes its place!! _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Thanks for all the replies. If anyone is still interested to try some road names, the main ones in Sa Coma are:
Av Las Palmeras
Ave. Ses Savines
Thanks for the help so far!! |

I have TomTom One v3 Western Europe, which has NavTeq maps. Many of the roads in Sa Coma are named, and there are two roads which are similarly named to the examples you gave
Avinguda de les Savines
Avinguda de ses Palmeras

The road names on Mallorca has one Spanish name and one in "Mallorquin".
For example the street in central Palma that everyone knows:
In Tomtom 910 - "Avinguda De Jaume III"
In Spanish -"Avenida Jaime III"
seems like tomtom has got the local names |

Just to close this one out, I bought the new Western Europe map ad it looks like it will be perfect. The roads I need are all on the map, as speculated Sa Coma itself is not identified and the roads appear to be in S'illot. I am not sure if that is a map discrepancy or if that is how the area is actually defined by the local authority. It doesn't matter, I can navigate from the airport to the hotel perfectly!!!
Thanks for your help. |

Not in the NavTeq maps - I found those roads under Sa Coma!
