I see that Manchester are proposing some kind of congestion charge and many other Towns and Cities across the Country (England) will maybe follow suit, does that mean maps will be out of date as soon as they are released or indeed before they are released?
Is there a way of putting Points of Interest spots on the routes to tell people ?
What we gonna do?? |

The POI file is an easy thing to create with local knowledge and can be used to warn if on route, it does not allow for an avoid POI feature, such a function is something quite a few have been asking for over the past few years.
The POI file can be used for a while until the map providers catch up to include the conjestion charge area, then the sat nav device will avoid the area when possible, but such changes are not going to happen overnight - read years for implementation, networks and cameras need to be installed, infrastructure put in place let alone the actual planning stages - Mike |

The London Congestion Charge is already available at the POI download page.
However like many other "obstacles" you can't get the Sat Nav to warn you of all of them. You'll get plenty of warning as you approach a CC Area so you can divert if you need to. However if you need to go into a CC area there will be no way around it. If you need to through a CC area (to get out the other side) then the best bet would be to set a Via point that'll take you around the area in general, or set your preferences to take to on A roads etc and not through City Centres.
Really it's all part of route planning. If entering a strange area and you don't know the roads then you shouldn't rely on your Sat Nav alone. A paper map would be excellent backup - they don't loose signal, battery power or break down at the wrong moment. Plan ahead and you'll avoid the Tax, sorry Charge. Many paper maps come with CC area marked on. |
