|
|
Hi
I submitted a number of speed camera locations in the cornwall region, in early march 2007. I received an automated response and told that the locations needed to be verified, its now been over 2.5 months, but my account details have not be updated.
Please verify asap |

Are the cameras now in the database? Because if they are and you haven't had your subscription upgraded, it's probable that you weren't the first to submit them, no matter how quickly you think you submitted them after they appeared. If they're not then you might still have a chance, but I wouldn't count on it. |

all 4 of your submissions have been 'ignored' due to one of our verifiers informing me they were non-existent. at least at the co-ordinates given.

I reported the removal of a Gatso and this camera has subsequently been greyed and crossed out on the map (camera 2520).
IF I was the first to report this, do I qualify for free subscription or is it only the first to report NEW cameras?
My subscription has not been upgraded, but I wasn't sure if this was because my report of a removal doesn't qualify, if I wasn't the first to report it or if I missed the deadline for the latest batch of membership upgrades. _________________ Andy

hmmm... Whenever this has been asked before and I've answered, I've said that the rules are you have to be the first to report a new fixed camera or a change to a (fixed) camera (correcting position etc.) or the removal of a (fixed) camera, and I've backed up my answer with a quote from one of PGPSW's FAQ or instruction pages on the site.
However, now I can't find it - the only mention I can find (on this page) now says:
Quote: | Q. How can I get Free Lifetime Membership?
A. Your active paid subscription will be extended free for life if you report just one previously unreported static speed camera. (Reports must consequently be verified by PocketGPSWorld.com.) |
Am I just being blind today, or have the criteria been quietly altered? |

Answering myself....
Yes, it looks like PGPSW HAVE quietly changed the criteria!
Here's a thread from October last year:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=47963
In it, I quoted from the subscription page
Quote: | Free lifetime subscription if you report just one previously unreported, deleted or altered static speed camera position. (Must consequently be verified by PocketGPSWorld.com.) |
But if I follow the same link now, I get:
Quote: | Free lifetime subscription if you report just one previously unreported static speed camera position. (Must consequently be verified by PocketGPSWorld.com.) |
A bit sneaky that, methinks guys... |

You and me both - unless the rules have changed because I'm one of the people you've quoted that paragraph to in the past.
By 'static' camera, does this also include red light cameras?
..edited to correct my stupidity - it says SPEED camera _________________ Andy

And note that my query at the end of that thread was never answered.

yes, the criteria have changed but we will be honouring the first reports of removals up to 14th may when the change was made.
gps_fan, unfortunately you were not the first to submit that removal request but yours did go towards the confirmation of it's removal.

And just to clarify the issue, our original intended policy was to award lifetime subs to notifications of new fixed camera sites only. However, confusion between team members resulted in the FAQ's and other guides being inconsistent and so as has been mentioned above, some areas stated that removals also qualified. It was an issue we were aware of but had not addressed until recently.
We have now changed all the references to the terms such that only NEW locations qualify but I would add that we have honoured all those claims for lifetime subs by those who reported removals and were the first to do so up until the rules were amended.
bmuskett I'm sorry that your post in the other thread wasn't replied to but if anything it does indicate that the issue was confused and we weren't all singing from the same hymn sheet! As I have said above though, we did honour removal notifications with lifetime subscriptions because the error was ours but having now amended those pages that contained incorrect information about the requirements for qualification will no longer do so going forward. _________________ Darren Griffin |

oh well, you don't get anywhere without asking
My report probably wasn't before 14th May even if I had been the first to report _________________ Andy

You do NOT get a free membership for spotting Eddies.
You do NOT get a free membership for spotting Lifeboats.
You may APPLY for membership of Friends of the RNLI if you spot a Lifeboat on the road.
You may APPLY for membership of the Friends of Eddie if you spot an Eddie on the sea (without a large ferry boat under it).
Alternatively, I can CONSIDER you for a one week membership of both as a free gift when you buy one of my very expensive, hand crafted reset tools. _________________ Dennis

Doesn't deserve a free membership if his memory is that bad - who could possibly forget that?
Never mind, GPS_fan, as I just told somebody else, your memory will improve with the onset of Dementia. _________________ Dennis
