What won't load?

Please be more specific on what you have done and any errors messages.

Also do you have the latest POILoader? http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=927

Welcome Thumbs Up

I assume you have a copy of the MAC POI Loader software from GARMIN?

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3497

If so then all you should have to do is place the GARMIN format speed camera database(s) into a folder on your mac and download from there using POI Loader. POILoader creates a single file for POIs but should retain a structure based on the individual POI groups (.csv or .pcx) you have in your mac folder. Just remember that this process will replace ALL user added POIs on your nuvi - so each time you want to add some POI's you need to do it from the same folder with the original POI files on your mac. I.e. add the new POIs into the same folder and POI Loader will re-create the POI file on your nuvi. NEVER delete the original POI files unless you want to remove them from your nuvi the next time you run POILoader.

PaulB2005 - note clash! But the pointer you give is for a Windows based POI Loader - mine is for a MAC.

Hi Guys, thanks for the advice.

I have now down loaded the MAC POI from the folder into the nuvi.

It said that it has been sucessful download! So when I unplug the Garmin from my MAC to check where it is I can't find any POI on any of the pages.

I never had a POI on the Garmin anyway, expected a new icon with POI on it after the download.

Does that mean it hasnt loaded the page. ?

How do I know when it has been loaded? Does POI icon show on the Garmin?

Ta

Ah. I knew Garmin had released a Mac version of something but when i couldn't find a Mac version of POILoader i assumed it was WebUpdater or something else that had 2 versions.

Garmin Nuvi Speed Camera set-up

Make sure you have already loaded the POI’s to the device by connecting to the PC and using POILoader.

Unplug the device from the computer and switch it on, you should see the following screen:

Tap the Spanner icon, Top right

Use the down arrow, Lower right.

Now select Proximity Points

Next to the Alerts heading press the Change… button

Make sure the tick box for “Custom Pois” is selected.
Then tap the “Audio” button lower centre of screen.

I find this setting to work. Tap the Green OK button.
Now return to the main start screen.
Select “Where To”

Select the “My Locations” Icon.

Select Custom POIs

Here you can see the individual POI categories, tap one to reveal its contents:

Note the above screen shot will differ from that shown, this is because the Garmin unit will display the POI’s ordered in increasing distance away from your present (or last known) position. Also the Garmin software will only display the nearest 50 POI’s please don’t think there are only 50 POI’s in each camera file, most contain considerably more than that!

In use when driving with or without a route selected you will get the following style of display when a camera is encountered.

Accompanying the visual alert, you will get a single Bong to alert you to the camera, if you are above the speed limit listed for the camera you will also hear a constant Bing Bing Bing, until you slow down below the limit of the camera.

One thing I do appreciate with the 310 is that you can be in any menu screen on the device and still receive camera warnings:

Hi Mike,

I copied the POILOADER but the icon does not show next to the Traffic icon in settings.

This is the loader I've tried to load on to the Garmin!

POILoaderforMac_2001Beta.dmg

It says that I've sucessfully installed this, but no sign of it anywhere.

Do you thing somethings wrong with my Garmin, or am I trying to install the wrong icon off my MAC?

Just to clarify here, when you downloaded the file from Garmin (linked above) you would have had a Disk Image file on your desktop called

POILoaderforMac_2001Beta.dmg.

Launching this mounts a Disk drive on your desktop of the same name with a CD Icon.

Open this and launch the .pkg package installer.

Once this has completed you should have a Garmin POI Loader.app entry in your Applications folder?

Hi Darren,

Thats correct. I have an image of an orange box which is opened. I launch this and I installs this into the nuvi icon, which loads, I assume its installing on to the Garmin.

When I unplug the Garmin from the MAC Computer, there is no sign of the POI Loader.app entry anywhere!

Is there anything else I can do to check my Garmin 300 is OK? Do I have to get a sat signal for it to work?

You misunderstand. The 'Orange Box' is the Package Installer for the Garmin POILoader Application.

Double-clicking thos Package Installer will begin the installation of the POILoader application to your Mac not to your Nuvi.

Once you've installed POILoader on your Mac you launch this (it'll be in the Applications folder) and it is this that loads the POIs on to your Nuvi.

Hi Darren,

I have found the disc in applictions (GarminPOILoader).
I click on this , it then asks me to find a device to load.
So I browse and select the folder, nuvi/garmin, click on this.
It then tells me, I have installed 5 points of POI onto my nuvi and closes.

When I check my Garmin, there is no sign of the POI icon in the settings file.

Have installed the right icon into my applictions folder for the download?
