Does anyone know whether and where it is possible to get any additional warning sounds for a Go 710? I find all but one of the sounds that come pre-loaded rather irritating. The one I can stand is "polite 2" (I think, if memory serves me right). The trouble is that this is the only sound, so far as I can tell, which you can have with traffic info updates so I would like something different and non-irritating to use with speed cameras etc. |

Thanks for that. I'll give them a try, though, in truth, I think I probably prefer a discreet "sound" to a voice so I'd still be interested in any replacement "beeps", "bongs" or "ding-dongs" that may be out there!

That link's not much newer, Mullet.
He needs to go HERE! (Admin - as just mentioned elsewhere, maybe this shows that the forum and site DO need thinning out or tidying up a bit!) |

Search on Google for an application called Audacity download and install this to the PC (it is free) and gives you the option to export as ogg format thus converting the audio file format type.
Name the file to exactly match the POI ov2 file you are wanting the warning to correspond with.
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ogg
Put the ogg files in your map folder (same place as the POI files ae installed to) then use change preferencs / manage POI / Warn when near POI to configure the alert, you don't need to select a voice or sound just set the distance and on route option as per your choice. Even if the warnings ae configured you must re-configure them for the software to pick up the fact the ogg files are present - Mike |

So was I...
The trouble with "your" link is that its 26 pages long and the first page only mentions Ray Flanagans site. If people go there they'd be back into the rigmarole of renaming all the files to match the ov2s like we used to, when now it's all been done for them, and they'd also be missing all the alternatives.
I've repeatedly asked if that first post could be edited to show the new compilation page, but no luck so far... |

Thanks guys, you've reminded me to have another try at getting a nice ringtone for the Tom Tom Handsfree.
For information Andy, there is a Mac version of Audacity. I might as well try that - I mean, I don't know how to use it, so trying with the Mac will be just a bit more difficult than on the PC. I've just sent myself an e-mail with Shostakovich's Walz No 2 from the Jazz Suite, since all my CDs went to the great whitevanman in the criminal community. MP3 it's over 4Mb, so I expect I have to learn how to Audacitate it down to something reasonable. I'm guessing it'll be either a razor blade or a couple of clippy pointer things like you get when you edit a video. _________________ Dennis

Either method can be used to load the sound files although the newer versions of TomTom are not supported using the data.chk file method. It doesn't matter what noise is used be it spoken or otherwise the file will be used so long as it is in the correct format (ogg) and correctly named.
A word about the data.chk file page mentioned above, it is still relevant for uses of TomTom Mobile 5 and some users of Palm based devices, when you click the link to get to the actual data.chk download page there is a large warning in red stating that this method is out of date, and links to the ogg method and downloads page - Mike |

But if you read again beaconlegal's posts he does not want a "voice" warning, ready made or otherwise and is enquiring to create his own "discrete" sound files. These WILL need to be renamed as indicated in the first post by Lutz in the link I gave.
The trouble with "your" link that it does not mention this crucial step. |
Spot on!
