Welcome to the forum Dave, Have a look at Rays site where there are a number of voices that can be downloaded for free, IMHO they are better than the ones supplied with the device, see Here - Mike |

These are commercial products so you're not likely to last long on this forum by asking for such things

As you can see from the link I provided above not all voices are charged for, the voices from Rays site are a great addition to the TomTom unit. Liz Whitaker is the default voice on my devices, and you can get a matching voice file for the speed camera alerts to go with it.
The device sounds far better when set up this way with a single voice offering directions and warnings, the spoken alerts and instructions for installation can be found Here But please make sure you have a full back up of the device BEFORE messing around adding and files etc - Mike |

The John Cleese voice is a commercial item and the only one of the novelty ones worth having in my opinion. Most of the other "celeb" voices aren't the real person anyway.
At least one of them (Lady Newsreader?) doesn't even say the right thing at times.

No that is not a link we will allow as it contains copywrite voices and data, that is why I removed the link from your post - Mike |

Hi there - having downloaded the voices into the voices folder, how do I select them on the change voices option? Am I missing something?
Thanks

You don't mention what device you are using? but the files you download from Rays site should first of all be unzipped, this will reveal three files for each voice, .bmp .chk .vif these three files need to be placed in to the voices folder on the memory card, then start TomTom and go to change preferences/ Change voice and select the new voice installed.
If you are using a PDA based version make sure you also have a folder called TomTom in the root of the memory card, it doesn't need anything in it but without this folder the voices won't work - Mike |

Thanks Mike
I am using the Tom Tom 710. I have downloaded the voices, unzipped them and copied them into the voices folder on the card. I have also previewed them on the card by opening the voices and playing them.
However, when I go to change voice, the only ones that it appears to be seeing are the three pre installed voices - so I'm somewhat confused!
Also, when I updated the camera's database a couple of days ago, the spoken warnings that I had been using had disappearred to be replaced by the bongs and cuckoo sounds etc. Again, I reloaded the voices into the poi folder with the individual speed camera categories, but these will not work either.
When I did the general update with Tom Tom Home, I got the message that there was a firmware update.....could this be the root of the problem.
My wife was using the unit earlier today and I got a call..."what are all these cuckoo sounds about...!" mmmm, I guess I have the same question. |

Geoffsuiter, Are you talking about the voices that direct you saying "in 200 yards at the roundabout take the third exit" which are navigation voice files OR the Speed camera warning voices which say "Warning GATSO ahead speed limit is 70 miles per hour"
The reason I ask is these are two totally different files and from your second post it would appear you are refering to speed cam voice files, even though the thread is discussing nav voice files.
That said its not a problem and we can sort you out to get the device working, let us know the answer to the above question then it should be easy from there on in
