.asc to .csv file converter

Hi All
Now please don't shoot me if this thread is stating something either obvious or has already been covered ..

I came across this site: http://www.poidownload.co.uk/ but noticed that the files download as .asc files (TomTom format, I believe) - googled and found this: http://rjdavies.users.btopenworld.com/html/poiconverter.html

If I remember correctly, the asc and csv formats are identical except that the csv version has headings in the first line "Latitude", "Longitude" etc. which upset some machines.
you could try just changing the file extension from asc to csv and see if that works.
you should be able to open both of them in a text editor like Notepad to have a look, as they are only simple text files.

I've not tried POIUConvertor, but POIEdit is a good utility that will open and save lots of different formats too, as well as showing them on a map.
