|
|
Currently running Microsoft PocketPC Version 4.2 (ie Windows Mobile 2003) on my MDPPC150. Is it possible to upgrade this device to Windows Mobile 2003 (Second Edition) or, better still, to Windows Mobile 5.
Is there any substantial advantage of upgrading? |

The major benefit in my opinion is that the screen rotate is in the OS which is very usefull for spreadsheets and Tomtom Nav 6 from which it as been removed , and can also be configured to one of the buttons for instant change, otherwise it would appear to be slightly faster, sharon stopped stuttering after upgrade but that may be coincidental, I understand that if a MIO168 clone serial no begins with R11, then it can be upgraded to 2003se, my upgrade was on a mio168 and if you follow the instructions it is relatively easily, check out http://home.tiscali.be/lataupe for downloads or do a google search for further info. |

Thanks for info - everything I need to update to 2003SE. Not convinced the benefits make it worthwhile. Moreover upgrade process looks fairly straightforward but am a firm believer in murphy's law, that if things can go wrong they will. Gonna stick where I am. |

I upgraded several months ago and it was very easy - the only problem I found was if I restored data that I had backed up before the upgrade - it caused problems with Jawbreaker. I just backed up the PIM data and restored this and all was fine |

You may be wise, at the time I changed mine i used the spreadsheet on my pda a lot, and only changed for the benefit of the landscape facilty plus the fact it was Mio168 dedicated, the speed gained if any was minimal if any at all, so unless you can see a benefit to you probably best staying as you are. |
