I've spotted 2 new crude looking cameras pop up on a motorway bridge - one for each direction. By crude I mean they look like they are just sitting on poles on top of battery blocks!

Anyway, I go over the bridge and not the motorway, so if I report this as a 70 both directions, I guess the person putting these in the data tags this to the motorway, rather than the approach to the bridge on the A road crossing it. Just curious really!

before you report them as anything, can you give as much information as possible about them (a photo would be great!), so others can have a chance to say what else they might be?.

There are so many cameras appearing that are not speed cameras at all, that the database is in danger of getting swamped by false alarms.

Are they yellow, for a start? Do they look like Gatsos or more like video cameras?

OK. having looked at the pictures of what you do and dont want, they are possibly ANPR's, but an answer about how they are tagged would be nice, as I always warn of ON the route. I guess the camera would be set slightly away from the bridge (if it was a valid camera)

Does'nt this mislead people into thinking the camera is on the carriageway instead of on the bridge where it's meant to be.

but if it's on the bridge then how can you tell whether it's capturing people on the motorway or on the bridge road? also, some units will 'see' it as being on the bridge rather than the motorway and not give a warning.

The point of my query was, if I sat on top of the bridge and reported a POI, I assume the person putting it in the database either
a) sees it's been recorded as 70mph, so assumes it's for the mway
b) sees it's on a bridge, and assumes the same
c) or a combo of the above

BTW The said cameras had gone yesterday

I, personally, agree that this is the best way of doing it to get the speed and direction correct.

Another benefit is that if the cameras are marked either side of the bridge, then you get a few yards' extra warning of the camera as you approach it.

In an example like this, it would depend on the comments that you supply with the submission. Otherwise the only option is a guess!

If it had only gone up on Monday, it sounds like some sort of traffic survey?
