I have been trying to download the latest speed cam data base for my navman iCn650, I can download the data base no problem, but I can't open the file, when I try to open it I get the message 'the archive is unknown format or damaged' also it is a ASC file.(whatever that means)
I am using internet explorer and my virus software is isolated.
I have downloaded and installed the data base in the past without any problems, so as you can guess I am at my wits end.
Please help |

I don't know the 650, but when you unzip the File, are there any error messages?
At a guess your software, (is it the SmartST Desktop?) is looking for a CSV File.
There is usually a File Type window on the screen whiuch you can change to *.*
Have a look at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras-navman-icn.php
Look at #4 in particular. _________________ Richard

Which File are you downloading and what are you using to unzip it?
I'll try to replicate it? _________________ Richard

I have downloaded the consolodated file ( I think that's the name) and I am using winrar to unzip it, I have had no problems in the past, other than my first time downloading your data base, and then the problem was that I was using firefox. If you can resolve this for me I will need to update my continental data base also.
Regards

If you are on a PC running XP, just use the built-in zip extraction (right click / extract all). Presume you've tried downloading a second time?
I use Firefox for everything. Never had a problem with it doing this.
Can you give exact pointers to which file you are after (i.e. what do you put in every selection box), so someone else can try for you? |

Hi Andy,
I am running windows xp, but the right click for extraction does not appear to be on my system.
I have tried several times to download the data base with the same result every time.
At sat nav systems, I click on Navman. At File type I have tried the consolidated file a few times, the single file once and the EUR file twice, with the same negative affect.
The down load is pretty quick perhaps less than a minute and I am not on broadband just a bog standard connection with a modem.
I save the file to my temp files folder (I have also tried to open them to no avail) the files come up as a three book stack (as I use winrar) when i try to open them by either clicking on them or through winrar I get the same message. When I click on the icon I get file download, Name pocketgps_uk_mobile.asc Type _ file unknown
If I click on open I get the archive is in unknown format or damaged.
If I try to delete the file or send it to the recycle bin it won't let it says blah blah zipped file corrupted.
Can you shed any light for me, I must add that I am not doing anything different than I have done before and I have downloaded and updated my navman on a number of occasions in the past.
Regards

Very odd.. can't imagine why that should be... It's a standard part of Windows. What happens if you double click on the .zip?

Well I tried downloading following your route (Navman / consolidated) today on my PC at work which also has Winrar installed, and it downloaded OK - (its very quick to download, its only 142kB) and it could be unzipped by both Windows own utility and by Winrar, so it must be something that's happened to your PC?
If you're still stuck, on sunday I could try emailing an unzipped copy to you (if that is OK by the admin) or you could send what you downloaded, to me, and I could try unzipping that one.
PM me with your email address to get the ball rolling. |
