Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I'm finding that the speed camera locations are alerting me of camera's on the wrong side of the road which are for traffic going in the other direction. Or even parrall roads.

Is there a way of stopping this?

Device is a tomtom6 on PDA.

Hi AlfaIan,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

The only was to stop alerts on the other side of the road is to set your TomTom Proximity Alerts and check the "Warn only if POI is on route" box.

NB. If you check the "Warn only if POI is on route" box, then you will not be warned of POIs that you approach if:
1. The POIs are slightly away from the road.
2. You have no destination and therefore no route planned.

You may still be warned of cameras for the opposite direction, when you are on single carriageway roads.

Regards,

So until there is a fix I’ll have to get use to it.

Thanks for the answer

as far as i am aware, the only units that can use directional data are drivesmart and some of the newer mio units.

also, these are teh only PGPSW downloads that include the heading data.

Adding to Privateer's reply:

You WILL get alerts from cameras on the other side of the road (rather than "might").

This is because as far as the TomTom is concerned the whole road is a single route.
The only time you won't (although it still happens ocasionally) is on dual carriageways, which are seen as two seperate routes (look at the colour of the road when you have a route planned).
The other time it happens on dual carriageways (which I find really annoying) is when a camera position - often a mobile site - is positioned on the roundabout off a slip road. These throw up spurious "30" warnings for example, as you are bombing down the motorway. This seems to be a function of the maps (or the way the softwarte interprets them, as it has definitely got worse as I have updated).
It seems as if the whole junction has been included with the main road as part of "the route".

I think you just have to get used to it, until the technology is more sophisticated.

As I said in my last post:

Unfortunately, we are never likely to be let into the secrets of how the software interacts with the maps, as all the manufacturers will see that as a vital commercial secret.
It also affects how some navigation instructions are a bit wierd - when does a straight road, become a bend, then become a turn, for example.
