Hello all,
I use my Etrex Venture a reasonable amount here in the UK, and have it set to the British Grid and Ord Survey GB map datum.
I will be going to Antigua for a couple of weeks in March and to help alleviate my paranoia of getting lost will be taking the Venture with me.
What settings should I have it set to please? Anyone know? I see a NAD27 Bahamas...that maybe? or NAD27 Caribbn?
So, which Position format, and which Map Datum please.
I admit to not really understanding the format of hdd,mm,ss, but I shall need it set so it might correlate properly with a detailed map for walking etc.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction?
All the best to you all.
Nick, Worcs. UK

The way to handle this is to find out what maps are available to you - then attempt to discover what settings you should use for those maps.
There may not be a generic answer to the question.

Ok many thanks David,
I think I shall have to sort it out once I am there with map in hand.
Cheers,
Nick

If it's not obvious, it may just be a case of trying settings until you find the one that gives plausible positions. The point is, though, that you can theoretically get maps on any one of a number of different datums. If you're really lucky, the map will be marked with the right datum!
You may find a post in the sci.geo.satellite-nav newsgroup may get you some useful information; there's much more of an international audience there.

Ok thanks again David,
I'll look at that newsgroup for a search there.
Hopefully as you say the map will have the right datum!
