Anyone else really ticked off by the way the speed changes from white on black, to flashing red/black on black if you go a few mph over the indicated max speed for the road you're travelling on.

Makes is impossible to see the true accurate speed at a glance. I've complained to TomTom and they've said that they appreciate the feedback. Anyone else complained about this 'feature'?

I'd much rather the speed remains in white on a white background. With the sun on the screen, its even harder to see the display.

I know, I know, "Slow down". That's one answer. But I want to see the speed limit. If you go over the limit, it flashes and becomes impossible to read.

Yes this has been discussed several times before.
If I remember correctly, NO-ONE liked the red flashing.
I have complained to TomTom myself.

Maybe if everyone does it now, (come on, it'll only take 5 minutes) they will listen...

Here's the link (go on - only 5 minutes Wink )
Contact TomTom to moan
You have to go through the rigmarole of selecting your model, then a category and then viewing ANY question to get to the link at the bottom to actually contact them, (just viewing any question in the first list doesn't work), AND you need to be logged in to their site for this to work too.... :x

I followed the link and put in a complaint, this is their reply:-

Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.

This feature has been implemented in our latest map and is very much appreciated by nearly all of our customer. You can turn off showing the speed by clicking on "Change Preferences" and "Status bar preferences".

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

I like the feature but I find lots of errors.
e.g. My TTG thinks most of the A12 from Colchester to Ipswich is a 30 limit !!

Come on Andy - I thought you were a reasonable edificated guy!! I've given up contacting Tom Tom like this - I'm so old I can't spare the real length of time it takes to go through that lot. Evil or Very Mad I now simply hope that one day Tom Tom might read some of the content of these forums and pay attention to them. But I'm not holding my breath - I mean, what sheer blindness in their reply to i235rider? The only excuse for it is that they are a foreign company and may not entirely understand the English language. Quite frankly, the enormous difficulty of doing a simple customer comment submission to them is a clear indication of how much (little) attention they pay to aftersales.
Patrick_uk I too like the speed feature, but the OP was about the overspeed feature. Tom Tom can't possibly have had "very much appreciated by nearly all of our customer" for that - unless I've got you wrong, I find it hard to believe you appreciate the display going into invisible mode. Every previous comment I've read here likes the speed but not the overspeed.

A carefully crafted individual reply as usual.
I'll add it to the many identical (word-perfect) replies that I have from other suggestions. Confused

The TTG is great but this "feature" is incredibly irritating!

Sorry but I am another one who is in favour of it. If I glance and see it is red, it makes me think to slow down.

Come and drive down the M5 from Bridgwater to Exeter (56 miles) and you'll be slowing down to 60mph. :D

I started wearing sunglasses this week for the first time since I got the new maps.
Guess what, the dingy red is even harder to read. Evil or Very Mad

Jean, I wish I had your eyesight! Don't get me wrong, I like the feature (when it is right), I just wish I could read it!

I will admit it can be a bit hard to see - especially with sunglasses. But my motto is, if I can't read it then I am going too fast!! 8O :D

There isn't a Voice Warning with that facility.

Is it possible to change the colour from red?
Quite why they chose a colour that the eye is least sensitive to.
At least if it was white is would be much easier to see the speed.

I wish, as do a lot of other users, its not that I speed but where the map speed data is incorrect it makes reading the GPS speed very difficult, dark red on a dark blue back ground is a very poor contrast making it difficult to read - Mike
