Gentlemen,

I have just submitted a new mobile by entering its location on Google Map.

Whilst there, I noticed that there was a comment about grey cameras on the map and wondered why I was seeing no cameras.

Since I use Firefox, I thought I would use IE for a change to have a look and, sure enough, cameras are shown.

Any idea why cameras are not showing in FF?

That's enough in IE - Back to FF now.

Update:

Found a comment from Andy_P2002 indicating that cameras don't show in FF1.5 but do in FF2.

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=51472&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=google+map+camera+firefox&start=15

Middle of Page 2.

They may do in FF2 but they don't in FF2.0.0.3 (at least not mine).

the overlays don't work in firefox 1.5 - you need to update to firefox 2!

i'm on 2.003 here and can see them. you have to be zoomed in to the top 5 zoom levels for them to show though.

i'd say that you also need javascript but if you can see them map on its own then it must be turned on...

i'm stuck now...

Update No2:

On this, my main machine, I have Java and Javascript enabled in FF but no cameras.

I also started up XP on my old Sempron machine (now usually used for Linux) and tried FF 2.0.0.3 on this (with Java and Javascript enabled): Still no cameras.

Any ideas?

have you tried it with IE Tab? that might be a good work around... not sure why you're not seeing them though.

do you have any firewall running that might be blocking that part of the scripts?

Some problem here - no icons on the camera page, however oddly enough, the icons on the non-speed camera POI submission map are fine. Using FF 1.5.0.11

MaFt,

I do have a firewall (two in fact - a hardware and a software firewall) but this is not the cause because using IE through the same firewalls I see the cameras.

IE tab may work but I don't wish to add it to FF.

From now on, if I have a camera to add/amend, I will use IE as I know there is something wrong with the presentation in FF.

For all the rest of my use I will stick to FF.

Cheers

That seems to be normal, the map on the POI submission page seems "cleverer" than the camera one.

I started a one-man campagn to get the script for the camera one updated a while ago, and was politely asked if I'd like to do it myself! Laughing

DeeSee - just wondered why you don't want to use IETab? I find it very useful at times (like for the camera map), and it seemss entirely trouble-free.

Andy,

A bit off topic, but for info:

Just a philosophical dislike of sites that flout the W3C standard (mainly those built specifically around IE).

If they don't render properly in FF because the W3C standard has been ignored then I tend not to use them (with the odd exceptions that I feel I must use).

Hence my choosing not to install IETab.
