The definitive guide to downloading POIs, or how to make the best of a bad job:
1) Enter download POI Page and ensure categories showing, If not refresh page(This has taken me upto 5 times before showing).
2) Select category (Suggest one at time to avoid problems).
3) Limit your download to max 20 sub category files use combine files and use show link, if you want more than 20 files then download next 20 and rename download file to xxxxx2, to avoid overwriting first file, do it again if you need more,i.e. For Shopping category, I download first file as POI Shopping, The second as POI Shopping2 and so-on, Then load first file into poedit and append other file(s) into it and save, you then have complete set of POI,s unfortunately it is a round the houses way but it is the only way that works for me.and unforunatey because the database is expanding daily It is certainly a pain if you want to upgrade regularly, and before people say start posting saying I dont need to do this and it works normal for me, then I can only say lucky you and count the posts because their is more peeps having trouble than aint.
I am using IE6 Used IE7 and found useless. |

what you mean here is actually:
"there are more people complaining about problems than those giving praise for not having any trouble"
come on, we're british - do we every say thanks when everything goes smoothly? not usually - but we sure know how to complain when it doesn't ;)

The odds have slightly shortened, But if it matters I also previously praised the database and still do and wholeheartedly support it, but you cannot ignore the amount of problems that people are having, when it is trouble free , i think it will the best thing since sliced watsit |

Nobody has suggested it's trouble-free for everyone, but when you compare the number of people reporting problems with the number who use this website it's a tiny proportion. And many of the problems are caused by the limitations of the SatNav, not the database.
You said there are more people having trouble than not, and that just isn't true. _________________ Anita

From the responses it would appear that it is not so much a problem for garmin users, but they are not the only users, the original post was meant for the users having problems and having seen postings giving part information i just thought it would be wise to try a give a full answer to help other people, but i still stand by my original comments, but as MaFt says back on topic. |

Well I for one have never been able to even open the downloaded zip file. It always tells me that it is not a valid file and to download it again. |

Maybe the satisfied users don't post because this is the sort of response they'd get: aj2052 wrote: | . . . and before people say start posting saying I dont need to do this and it works normal for me, then I can only say lucky you . . . |
And obviously anyone who has downloaded with no problems can't give advice to those having problems because they haven't experienced the situation. ![Confused](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif) _________________ Anita
