Well, I was just in the process of firing off an email thanking everone for their suggestions regarding the battery question when my Quest began making a series of beeping sounds and the screen began acting erratically. I tried to power the unit down without success. At the time, the unit was connected to my PC and an external power source. The beeping sound was beginning to drive me nuts so I moved the unit to another part of my house. Eventually, I was able to turn it off. Turning it back on was an adventure of sorts what with the repeating beeping and an incomplete screen. My assumption (some 2 hours ago) was that there was/is a hardware issue with the unit.
Low and behold, I was finally able to reboot the unit while it was in the external power source cradle. The fact that I am unfamiliar with it, I am not sure what tests to run in order to see if it is okay..
This is a re-manufactured unit that I purchased on Amazon's site from one of a stable of merchants they have; this one being DigitechDeals. An exasperating side note is the fact that many of these companies do not list a phone #. I have sent them an email. I don't have much confidence in this particular unit and am thinking that it might be wise to return it and start over.
Sorry for the length of this missive.

I would be inclined to do just that.
If you have had it less than 7 days then return it immediately under the "Distance selling regulations" and they are obliged to take it back with no questions asked. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I can't remember if it was Elsinga or Garmin Customer Support in Romsey who showed me how to reset my Quest with a similar problem. I think it involved holding down the power button and pressing the zoom out button (or was it zoom in?) |
