Auto Power Off Revisited

I suspect this might be a question for Eldar....

After a change of car I'm now using a brodit mount for my Go300 that has a "passive" base (i.e. no multi-pin connector), so I'm now plugging into the power socket on the Go itself.

Although I can cope (I've got broad sholders), I'm really missing it powering up and down with the ignition, and have already drained the battery a couple of times in the bag by leaving it on, so I quite fancy trying a bit of a hardware mod.
I'm capable of re-working surface-mount kit if I know what I'm doing, but in this case I don't know if there would be any problems with just re-routing the wiring from the i/p socket to the point on the board where the dock power arrives from the multiway (pin 15, I believe).

Also not looking forward to all that bacofoil!
Any better ideas?
