yep. best option is to turn the stereo down a bit or get some cheapy little battery powered speakers and plug them into the headphone socket.
i put it down to the slim design of the nuvi meaning a smaller speaker was needed to 'fit' inside.

or if you use the mp3's on the nuvi then plug in a headphone jack to tape adaptor into our tape deck (assuming you don't have a cd player!). it pauses the music when it gives you wanrings and directions. either that or if you have a cd player then try a (now legal!!!!) fm transmitter to car stereo.

Hi stevejewell. Have you overcome the lack of volume? I am having the same problem. I see people are advising you to plug into the headphone socket. Which is it? My handbook only mentions a microphone jack socket which I assumed only took sound in (i.e.line in) Can it also be used with headphones as a line out?
Are there any electronic experts out there who can advise please? |

:D Mikes advice at the above thread which leads you to my similar question on the HGV and Motohomes Forum is great. I followed his advice, bought a small fm transmitter and it worked! Problem solved! |

|

I am in the process of buying a satnav and had decided upon the Garmin nuvi 360T until I read about the voulme issue. If I use the fm transmitter or fm injection unit workarounds does that mean that I have to have my car stereo tuned just to the satnav or can I still listen to music via the radio or the CD player? If I can does the satnav automatically interrupt the CD?
Thanks

Yes that is a problem you cannot listen to any other channels or CD if you are tuned into the sat nav channel |

you could use the nuvi as an mp3 player which would then pause for directions and speed cam alerts etc

Thanks MaFt. Do you mean still using the fm xm to link it through the car stereo? Would this provide stereo sound quality as I read in one of the reviews for this device that the MP3 player wasn't brilliant quality?
Thanks

the built in mp3 player is very good quality. when i'm using the nuvi i often use the mp3's fed via a 'tape adaptor' to my stereo.
obviously using the fm link the quality is only fm and it'd be better to use a hardwired link to an aux input on the stereo if you have one

Thanks MaFt. I have a Volvo with a factory fitted stereo so I'm not sure about an aux input. There doesn't appear to be an option to select such an input on the controls so I suspect there isn't one. I'll ceck with Volvo.
The other option I found last night on the net is a Bluetooth handsfree speaker from Nokia. Presumably I could use that as the nuvi has Bluetooth. It just plugs into the cigarette lighte socket. I guess it depends how loud that is though as some of those units can be a struggle to hear at high speeds.
Cheers

bluetooth has certain 'features' within the whole bluetooth protocol such as headset, handsfree, stereo headset, file transfer, object push, basic printing, dial-up networking, serial port and others.
the nuvi only has the 'handsfree' (control phone, make calls etc) and 'object push' (send phonebook entries to nuvi etc) and not the headset required for sending the audio output to a bluetooth stereo.
i'm sure it won't be long until that feature is added as i'm starting to see more stereos with bluetooth built in - all we need is for both the sat nav manufacturers and stereo manufacturers to make sure A2DP is enabled on each (allows the 'broadcast' of stereo sound to be transferred via bluetooth.
