Hi,
My iQue m5 has died and I'm looking for a new gps. The nüvi line looks interesting but i have a few questions.
1. Does it show the speed on the map page? On the pictures I have seen it looks like it's only show the arrival time and distance to next turn? The M5 shows, speed, arrival time, current time and distance to turn.
2. Can you turn of text-to-speech so you only hear "turn left", "turn right" etc?
3. Is there any program like MapSource where I can edit waypoints and routes on my PC?
Does anything of the above differs between the different nüvi's?
Thanks in advance! |

I've just got a nuvi and am very happy with it. I am still learning how to use all the functions but as far as I know...
1) You can't get it to show speed on map page.
2) You can't edit TTS to just have "turn left" etc
3) Don't know about this but I would be interested to know if this possible. _________________ Nick Russell

I've had a Nuvi 300 for about six months so can answer the following:
1) Your speed shows up in the bottom left hand corner when you are in "view map" mode. It is not currently possible to display your speed while navigating. I tend to rely on the speedometer as I find it easier to read.
2) Text to speech did not come with the Nuvi 300 - you only hear "Turn Left". At the time I was shopping the Nuvi 350 came with "Turn left on ....."
3)You can plan a route and save an infinite number of waypoints using Mapsource on your PC. Nuvi's however do not have the cabability to store or receive routes. You can only transfer waypoint to your nuvi but having done that you can only insert 1 waypoint when plotting your route on the nuvi. |

1. The speed will show on the map page when you don't have a route programmed in.
2. The NUVI 300 and 310 don't have text to speech, just the normal orders.
3. EasyGPS

1) in normal mode it will show your speed as you are driving along, when set to navigate to an address , this will NOT be shown.
2)On your voices settings you have one male voice and one female voice set to TTS....if you do not need this, just select one of the other uk voices to get normal instructions ie: turn left / turn right in 20yds etc.
3) Pass
Regards....Dil |

My 350 came set using the normal voice not TTS. It was some months before I even noticed that it even had the TTS facility |

Just to complete the picture, touch "arrival time" see odometer, stored/average travel speeds and times and distance to go/traveled |

A free program which allows you to create Waypoints for your Nuvi is: G7towin.
G7towin does not support communication with the Nuvi, but you can save POIs in MapSource GDB, GPX, CSV, TXT and a host of other formats.
Another plus point is the program does not require installing, just unzip, copy to a folder and run it.
G7towin can be downloaded from: http://www.gpsinformation.org/ronh/ |

You can also create a number of waypoints for a specific journey in Autoroute, and then transfer them to the Nuvi. You may need to tweak where the waypoints are, as the Nuvi does not always calculate the same route between waypoints as Autoroute. |
