|
|
Hello all,
My memory card on my Tom Tom Go has become corrupt and now the receiver won't boot up past the intro screen. I have lost the original software CD as I bought this unit second hand more than a year ago.
I have my friend's Tom Tom One CD. Is there an easy way to copy the maps from this to my unit? How would I go about doing this? I have installed the software but its not giving me any option to copy the maps to my unit.
Thanks in advance |

I think you will find the CD from the ONE does not have the maps on it either.
Even if it did, his maps are linked to his ONE. If you copied them you would be breaking the licence agreement, and if you could activate them to work on your device, it would prevent him from upgrading or re-activating them on his.
This is why making a backup is SO vital.
All you can legally do is throw yourself on TomTom's mercy, they will charge around £5 to provide you with a new map if the unit is out of warranty.
You might as well buy a new UK and Eire map. |

Having said that, are you SURE you have lost your maps?
Just because the unit will not boot, doesn't mean the whole SD card is corrupted.
Connect your Go to a PC with a USB cable. The PC should recognise the Go's SD card as a new hard drive or "mass storage device".
If you still can inspect the card with Windows Explorer, and there is a folder called something like Great_Britain_Map, you may be in luck.
Report back with what you find. |
