|
|
After a right load of rigmorole last month (mostly down to me being thick)I finally managed to get the new system up and running with Liz's voice prompts.
Yesterday I downloaded the latest camera update and the bleedin' bells and whistles are back. I've checked the directory and the ogg files are still there, I've unchecked and rechecked the "warn when near" etc etc, but no good. Bizzarly, all of my favourites and Home destination have mysteriously disappeared as well (though this could be a red herring).
Any thoughts please from you clever people. If I had any hair left I'd be pulling it out now.
Thanks
Steve |

Might you have the same problem as HERE?
If you have accidently added another camera file as well as the normal 24, it will take over with the default bells.
Or have you either renamed the new files or (more likely, renamed the old files, so the file names don't match the oggs any more?
What really helped to solve the problem in that link above was that the guy downloaded a tiny utility called DriveZ so he could post a list of the files in his map folder for us to look at. Could you do that? |

Thanks for any advice.

Hmmm....
You're right, everything looks right to me.
(Apart from some extra .bmps (pocketgps_uk_gatso.bmp, pocketgps_uk_mobile.bmp, pocketgps_uk_specs.bmp) that look like they have been left over from an earlier install of the "consolidated by type" version of the database - you could erase those for neatness, but they won't help your problem).
I'm intrigued by the loss of your favourites and home location, though. As you say, that shouldn't have happened with just a camera database update.
It's ringing alarm bells because it's just happened to a work colleague when he bought the new map (and updated the operating software at the same time ) using Home. But you haven't done any of that have you?
We've not mentioned the reset button yet... Try that?
Also, there is another thing you could try, so long as you've made a good "copy and paste" backup, which worked for another, slightly different problem for someone.
In the preferences menu, is "Reset Factory Settings". I'm afraid I don't have any detailed knowledge of what EXACTLY this is resetting, but it worked! (Obviously the "Warn when Nears" will need setting up yet again though).
Good luck!
Come back with your findings... |

The names given are for a V5 GB Map.
Which Software and Map are you trying to use? _________________ Richard

Wits end!!
I've tried a soft reset, I've wiped the memory card and reloaded it all from disc, reloaded the camera data base and re-done all the "warn when nears". Its still bells and whistles! :x
One thing thats strange though. Last month when I was having all the problems setting it up in the first place, I was getting the same problem as a lot of people on the forum i.e when setting the "warn when near" they still had the option of the cow mooing etc. I had the same problem at the time, but with much fiddling and resetting, the option disappeared and the system worked ok.
Now I don't have that option; its "warn when near", distance, warn only if on route. |

Ahh, hold on.. this might well be relevant...
Are you saying that when you go to "Warn when near" it IS skipping the stage where it asks for a warning sound?
If so, the Go is trying to use the ogg, but maybe the oggs are in the wrong format or corrupted somehow.
Two things to try:
1) Delete all the ogg files completely and re-download a new set
Try Without siren
(Right click and "save as..")
If still no luck:
2) Email me one of your ogg files and I'll look at its format and also try it on mine. PM me to get my email. |

That's the correct situation for the OGG files to be working - you don't get to choose the warning sound. Are the bells and stuff due to TomTom cameras being alive and well? Have you Disabled them? You should. _________________ Dennis

At last thats cracked it.
Thanks guys for all the suggestions and particularly thanks Andy for all your patience and for finally sorting it. Still not sure what happened and how, but downloading the "clean" version did it.
I'm going to back it up now then I'm going to try and get Liz's voice back. No doubt I'll be on here later.
Cheers again.

Right! Now that this is sorted, one of the other problems is still there. I'm not sure if it should be a new thread, but as it happened at the same time as the update, there might be a connection.
Also (pardon the wittering), this might be a PDA/Windows for Pocket PC issue rather than a "not knowing enough about Tom-Tom" issue.
My favorites, home page and camera settings (warn when near) disappear every time I turn the PDA off! Everything else is ok, but if I reset my home page, enter a favourite or set the warn when nears for the cameras, when I turn the PDA off for a second then turn it back on again, they've all gone.
Any ideas again please? |
