Yesterday I updated my wife's i3 to v9 maps. It didn't go smoothly - I followed the instructions, but after it got to the end of updating the software, it didn't recognise the device as being switched on. I started again, and this time got a repair screen. Again I followed the instructions, but once again at the end it asked me to connect or switch the device on, when it was already plugged in and running (as I had been asked to do on an earlier screen)
I replaced the original transflash card, and found it still worked, so this time I managed to navigate round the DVD and installed the maps I wanted onto a new card using a card reader.
Took it for a run in my wife's car and it all seemed to be working fine when powered from the cigar lighter. This morning I put in some fresh batteries and it wouldn't start using those. Tried another pair - still wouldn't start.
It works fine using the lighter supply.
Could the firmware have been corrupted during my early unsuccessful attempts yesterday? Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Robin

Alas no. I have tried reinstalling 3.2, which is what I had been using, then I went back to 2.82 beta, which was always very satisfactory. Doesn't work off the internal battery with either

i suppose you've done the obvious thing like a hard reset, if you have and no luck ,then hopefully the i3 will still be under warranty...

I tried pressing all 3 buttons (when connected to the USB port of my PC, because it doesn't work on battery) but that doesn't do anything

I found that if I turned the i3 off, whilst still connected to the PC USB port, I could do a hard reset. Didn't fix the battery problem though!!! Sad
