Hi, i purchased a navman jacket for my ipaq from a friend who was using it with the same model. Ipaq 3630. Im thinking of maybe getting a slightly better ipaq but was wondering if the navman jacket would be compatible.

The only part I can see is the serial number. is there any way of checking what model navman it is, so that i can see what other ipaq's it is compatible with? My friend doesnt seem to know. The drivers give me the choice of gps1000, gps3000, gps100 and iv tried it on 1000, and 3000 and it works on both.

The drivers are generic, so they work with all jackets. Your jacket should also be comptaible with all PocketPC 2002 iPAQs. up to 5400 . Not sure if WM2003 supports this...
If you want to get a better iPAQ for this jacket I would recommend a 3970. On the other hand that iPAQ does already have BlueTooth. which opens up a host of other opportunities for BT GPS receivers ;-)

Thanks for that.

Only problem with this is it often takes a while to lock onto the satalites. is this normal or is it due to being a 'lower' model navman?

Also with the navman on my battery only tends to last around 15mins max. i think its about due a replacement battery, any idea how long it should last with the gps enabled as apose to normal running?

Navman 3000 jackets on a good Pocket PC battery with full brightness will last about 1.5 hours (max).

Taking a while to lock onto a 3D fix is about right. Most of the time Navman 3000/3400 jackets had problems with fixing. There's a thread in the Navman forum (sticky) on using an antistatic hard drive back which does help fix times.

A cold fix (if the sleeve hasn't had any power for a good 12-24 hours) should take around 50 seconds on a regular GPS Receiver. I suspect you are seeing around the 3-5 minute mark, or perhaps more ?
