Bridge POI showing when 'Off Route'

Can anyone tell me if POIs only detect (warn/alarm etc. if selected) when actually on your route or if they do in fact show up when within the warning zone you set on your unit.

I have been getting warnings for bridges that are nearby but NOT on my route but unfortunately I can't find a speed camera on an adjacent route to test this.

It would obviously be more advantageous to ignore POIs that are 'OFF ROUTE' but I can't seem to be able to do so

I would hate it if the alert only happened with POI's on route - I oftern use my iCN without a route programmed just to get the camera alerts........

It would be better if it could detect the road you were on was the same as the camera, but even then there would be circumstances when alerts would not occur. I would rather deal with occational "false positives" than "false negatives".

It would be better to have no chance of either, but then I think I will see flying pigs before Navman software gets that good. :D
