Has anyone had any experience of getting TT5 to work on the X51v?
The software runs but the device will not see the cable GPS. TT are of little help and Dell advise that differences between 51 and 51v are mainly cosmetic, screen size, memory etc.
Am running Windows mobile 5, which has facility to set comms ports for the GPS receiver.
If the cable option is not viable, will it work with a Bluetooth GPS?
Any advice/ideas would be appreciated.
Regards

Bob, Welcome to the forum, in tomtom/ preferences/ gps status use the other cable NMEA device, set the BAUD speed to that which your GPS unit uses, then on the next page will be a port called ser??1?? (or something like this) select this and give it a try, this worked on an x50v that had WM2005 loaded, there is another post on here somewhere detailing a reg edit from last Dec (ish) have a search for x51v and it might come up - I am mobile at moment so its too slow to nav around the site on the phone - will find it later tonight if you are still struggling - Mike |

Also what version of TT5 are you using - you need to update to latest version (free from TT site) if you want to use it on WM2005. _________________ Peter

hi all
did you end up getting this to work? i am having the same problems. which settings of hardware and program port have you decided. i have tried a number of combinations but with no luck yet. is there a program that will show gps settings and tell you whether they have connected rather than having to load up tom tom every time and then switch it off again to change a setting.

thanks for the info. I d/l windfast and it detected my gps on com1 at 4800 no problems. but do I need to set this in the hardware and program ports.?.
although it works in winfast, tomtom cannot see the gps. probably because the ports aren't correct.

i went to the aximsite.com and follwoed a few of the chaps posts on there. there is a known problem with tomtom and serial ports. if you look in tomtom the text is corrupt. you need to alter one of the keys in the registry to correct it and now it works fine |

Which Registry tweeker did you use?....I found a thread thast quoted a tweeker, but the link was broken.....
I'm trying to get my TTN5.21 working on my NEW Axim X51V, but cannot get the Globalsat-338 working with it....(Like lots of other people)..
I've tried the "other NMEa cable/Baud settings" that DID work on my old iPAQ...... |

www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml
i moved the file manually on to the pocket pc then ran it from there.
the hack i used was (and i quote from aximsite.com)
Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial

3. You will see the value name "FriendlyName" has some Russian characters for the value data
4. Change that to Serial Cable on COM1: (include the colon)
5. Make sure you exit registry editor from Tools Exit, that will save the changes properly.
6. Now go to Tom Tom and your wired GPS should be working. You may need to do a soft reset if Tom Tom is still not picking up your wired GPS.
well it worked for me straight away. hope it does for you.

mburton2, when you get to the TomTom GPS status page, does the yellow/ blue disk (top RH corner) spin at all, if it isn't doing then you still have a comm port issue, if it is spinning and you are outside, after 20 mins do you see anything? if not it could be the GPS unit is outputing data in SiRF mode rather than the NMEA which TomTom needs, get back with these answers and we get some progress fixing what is wrong - Mike |

Nope, its not spinning.......it IS a comms issue.....
The GPS unit still works on my iPAQ3970.....does that mean its possible for it to be in SiRF mode??......
I was using TTN5.21 on the iPAQ, with the BT338.
I had to install TTN5.0 (I think) from my original TT disk. I then downloaded the Upgrade from the TT site. Then I tried to set up the parntership with eh BT device.....I was wondering, would it be worth re-installing the original TTN5, THEN seeing if I could get the comms sorted with the BT device, THEN upgrading to TTN5.21??
Thoughts? |
