I have used various tomtom products over the last few years but for the last few months I have been using a competitors product Embarassed . The truth is that the other system was no where near as good as tomtom so I have decided to buy a tomtom 910. What I am wondering is whether or no there is something like 'An Essesntial Guide' to all the add-on software you can get ? Also does anyone have any views on which traffic system is best tomtom+ or TMC ?

Any advice very gratefully received

Cheers

Wilko

Welcome The TT GO910 is an excellent piece of kit. Posting this question is likely to get either a million answers from all the folk who can tell you everything, or no answers because folk are saying "Not again!!"

My top piece of advice is
Buy the device, BEFORE you do anything, BACK IT UP twice - first using the supplied software, Tom Tom HOME, second simply drag and drop onto a folder in your computer.

Then subscribe to full membership of this site and get the speed camera download.

Then sit down for a few evenings and browse the site for the answers to everything and the universe (just for free, somebody has told me this morning it's 42). Take your time over it and you'll get it just right.

Sound advice - Back it up, it will be the only copy of what is on the device also with a 910 the back up via Windows Explorer saves a load of hastle with the Text To Speech should you ever need to re-load it. Have a read through the various FAQ's that can be found HERE you will probably have more questions, but it is a good start point - Mike

Guys

Thanks for the information and will take on board your comments. Have ordered the 910 and will be subscribing as a full user as soon as I get my NoChex account working again.

What I may do, based on the fact that a lot of people will have brought one of these with the recent price reductions, is create a blog (or use this board) to step through the set up of a 910 as I think this will be useful.

Thanks

Phil

Depending on what you want to do, I think you'll find most set-up issues have been discussed on this or other forums already, and descriptions, instructions or beginners' guides written for them.

When you come to forums "new", though, it's always hard to find your way around....
Checking the "sticky" posts, or anything called "How to..." is a good first step, followed by the "Search" facility. If you spend much time here or any forum, you will use "search"A LOT, and it is worth spending some time learning how to choose your search terms to get the best results.

Having said that, if you are a good "explainer" you will soon find yourself very busy, as the same questions come up over and over, and people often ask for things to be described differently depending on their level of experience with satnavs, computers, cars, electronics, etc.

Welcome!
