Hi there everyone,

I'm having a nightmare trying to load the cameras onto my tomtom one, i have read the help thread on this forum that talks you through how to install the cameras but I'm still having no joy.

I have copied the .OV2 file to the map directory on the tomtom and it has come up with the pocketgpscameras on my POI on the unit but it doesn't pick up the cameras.

Can someone help please? Anyone successfully installed the cameras on their tomtom one?

Thank you

Darren

Did you copy BOTH the .OV2 and .BMP files (you need the .BMP files to show the camera icons)?

Have you gone on to "Enable" the cameras?

Have you set "Warn when near"?

I haven't got a TT ONE, so if you have done all those three things, I can help you no further - just posted this answer because it's so easy to miss one out.

as far as i know i have done those things, the only thing i think i might have done wrong is that i may have copied the files into the wrong folder??? I put them all into the map folder, when i downloaded them there were a lot more files than i expected, and as i say i put them into the map folder.....

When you say "enable" you mean that i have been to POI on the menu and put a tick in the box next to the "pocketgpscameras" and then i went to the POI prefences and asked it to alert me when i was near them.....

I'm really stuck, don't know what i've done wrong.....

Anyone aleady done this on a TT one?

Ta

Loads of people have done this successfully on a TT One, so don't worry. It will be something simple, we've just got to work out where you are going wrong.

Firstly, was it the "single file with all cameras" version you downloaded?
Are you sure you un-zipped the download archive to extract the ov2 and the bmp file, and that you put both of those individually into your map folder (which is called "UK and IE and major roads of WE" or "Western_Europe" or something like that).

You say you 'put a tick in the box next to the "pocketgpscameras"' entry in the POI list - if I remember correctly this should show up as "pocketgps_uk_sc" - is that what you are seeing? Little details like that will all help to point us all to what the problem might be.

Finally can you list EVERY file you put in your map folder (and the name of the folder.

I'll have a good look when i get home to see exactly what is where on the unit.

the files that i downloaded were:

a folder that had POI capture on it and a folder that is called SDKregistry
also there were two files, tomtom.mnu and pocketGPScameras.ov2

What should i do with all these? I'm well confused!!

Darren, What you have downloaded and installed is POI Capture, this is an add on to the device that enables you (or your passenger) to record the positions of speed cameras. This is not the speed camera database.
To get the speed camera database you need to be a paid up subscribed member of the site, the charges are £2 per month or £19 for the whole 12 months. Further details of the subscription can be found HERE once you are a paid up member to the site you will have access to the members only area where you can download the speed cameras from HERE Hope this helps - Mike

i paid yesterday, the full £19 for the year via paypal so that i could get it instantly.

Can you give me the link to the download i need then please?

I thought it was the .ov2 file that was needed?

It is the second hyperlinked text in my post above, this will take you to the camera downloads section. - Mike

nice one, i have used your link and i have downloaded the files i need (i think) they are in a folder called pgpsw-speed-cams?

I have downloaded all three of the english versions in ov2 format, is that correct?

What's next? Just copy them and the bitmaps to the map folder on the tomtom?

You only need one of the downloads, they all contain the same number of cameras and locations, but the databases are structured differently. I appreciate THIS Guide is for a different device, but if you ignore the part about Text To Speech you should be OK following the rest of it. To make sure you have the correct download on your PC please download it again making sure you select the one you want, there is a description of the different types in the guide - Mike

all i can say is thank you very very very much for all of your help, it's working and it is absolutely brilliant!!! I'm more than chuffed!!!

One more question, as a subscribed member will i get map updates as well as the camera updates? And when i get the camera updates do i have to set them up all over again or do i just put the files on and it is all ready to go again?

PocketGPSWorld don't supply maps or map updates, although as the major suppliers do release map updates you will get to hear about them on the forum/ site.

The camera database is updated on a regular basis, at least once per month, but MaFt is doing a sterling job at the moment releases are about every two weeks, keep an eye on THIS Page or investigate using the RSS feed option to notify you of an update.

When you install the update to the device simply copy the files across, you don't need to re-configure any of the POI Warning related settings - Mike
