USA/Canada Map... V6.6 downloadable in UK, V6.65 in USA??

Question

Why are they different?

I was planning on buying the USA/Canada maps for a trip in late 2007/2008 whilst there is a 20% discount.

Question

How often are maps replaced?

Good question that. Ask the TomTom Marketing geniuses.

Maps were historically replaced once a year. Lately we have seen half-yearly or - gosh - quarterly updates/releases. Don't expect these to generally be free or discounted, after all that's what the above mentioned geniuses get their paycheck from.

I think I will wait until late 2007/2008 and buy just before I go.

It's a shame Tomtom don't allow unlimited downloads of any maps for a yearly fee. I assume most people, like me, only buy different continents when they go on holiday.
