I upgraded my tomtom One (V1) to the latest European map (via download) a few weeks ago.
Unfortunately it was stolen a week later .
I am currently undecided between the One (V2) and 510, but my question is the same regardless.
If I purchase a regional (UK) tomtom device, can I install my Euro map, or is it linked to the device it was intended for (in this case my stolen One V1).
I know there is protection to stop unauthorised copying of the maps (although I'm unsure of how it works), but this would appear (to me at least) to be a ligitimate re-use of the map.
Any help greatly recieved (intend to go shopping tomorrow in the sales).
Thanks, Dave.
P.S. Merry Christmas! |

Sorry to hear about the theft. My house was burgled recently, but they left the TomTom which was in plain view and took a cheap DVD player instead. PHEW!
If you acquired an activation code from ttcode.com for your new map, then you will have to wait 6 months from the time of activation before you can get another code for the new device. |

Or call TT on 0845 161 0009 and see if they can help. You didn't buy the map, you bought a licence to use a copy of it.
You will need an activation code from www.ttcode.com before you can use the map on a new device. But I'm pretty sure that you will find that site gives an error message when you enter the map code and your new device code. Something like the "code already used". Only TT can sort it. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Called the phone number suggested and spoke with a tt representative.
They have promised to give me an new authorisation code if I email them with the product codes of the original device, the euro map, and my replacement device.
This means I can save a little money buy looking at the either the One (V2 regional) or 510.
Thanks for your help, and well done tomtom.

now we see a downside of telling tomtom all your secrets (home).. or downloading maps as opposed to buying one on a card..
i am pretty sure as long as i dont go near home my sd card europe map would work on as many tomtoms as i wanted to stick it on.. not that as yet i have wanted to.. but the future holds all sorts of possibilities..
i assume that as long as i only have it on the one device at any one time it would be legal to move it from tomtom to tomtom.. when i bought it i saw nothing to make me think otherwise..
i do use the word "assume" deliberately..

That sounds fine to me.
It's making copies to use on more than one unit at once that breaks the Licence Agreement. |
