Just joined Pocket GPS World and beginning to wonder if I should buy Tom Tom for my Dell X5. I am currently using excellent Directions Navigator 1.3.9 on my Laptop (sadly no PDA version) and note that they also use Tele Atlas maps. The omissions mentioned in the forum don't seem to affect Navigator and at a cost of around £50 for the WHOLE of Europe I get the impression someone is ripping someone off!! Navigator also speaks to you!!

Actually they do have a PDA version, but it's only for exporting maps to a Pocket PC and seeing your current position when you plug in a GPS Receiver (no routing).

If you like the style of maps which Directions use (TeleAtlas), then you'll probably like TomTom more. It also has most of the features, and very similar routing algorithms compared with InfoMap Navigator, so if you're used to taking the routes it suggests, then TomTom would probably be the best in your situation. If however, you want a completely different system I would suggest CoPilot Live or Destinator 3.

Most importantly, InfoMap Navigator is cheap. You won't find ANY PDA system for £50. PDA versions are more expensive, and you will be looking at around £100+ for a country specific version, or £200 for a European system. Companies do charge more for PDA type systems because there's more of a niche market and they can exploit it. However, Directions do drop their prices to try and get their product out on the shelves and into peoples homes over Microsoft which really is the biggest competition and hurdle.
