|

I've seen what Brodit has for alternative mounts (nothing for the 510) and I've been to a Arat. I'm waiting to see if they have anything.
Anyone else have suggestions on what can be done to do a vent mount?
Thanks... |

No such beast as yet. The mount design precludes a simple solution. Perhaps Brodit may engineer a solution in due course but it won't be a vent mount. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Dang.. I don't see why someone couldn't just make a smooth "plate" that just attaches to the vent and then you could just hook the 510 suction cup to that... |

Because it'd fall off, way too much weight hanging too far out for that to work. Vent mounts only work when the device id closze coupled to the vent. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I wonder what Brodit came up with so a 500 could be mounted to the vent. Much smaller unit? |

Brodit don't do Vent Mounts AFAIK? They did a Classic/300/500/700 mount for use with their ProClips. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Tomtom itself had such a mount for the x00 series in the form of the Alternative Mount Kit. It was convenient but it relied on your vent being strong enough to cope.
It's probably not wise to mount anything to your vent; I've heard of people smashing vents because they bumped into a cheap air freshener and I nearly destroyed my vent using the kit mentioned above.
Great if it works; a curse if it breaks your vent! |

As I said, AFAIK Brodit don't offer such a solution because of the problems of securing heavy items to the vent. _________________ Darren Griffin |

May be a daft suggestion, but why can't you get any suitable vent mount, and butcher it to connect to the hacked down 510/710/910 mount? This site has a great article here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/insidetomtomgo910.php on hacking the standard mount to remove the suction cup etc. You could surely then attach it to a vent mount couldn't you? |

Thanks for the info....
I've purchased a Brodit Proclip and I think I'll be able to use that as a starting point to get a nice non-window mounting solution. |

Let us know how it goes!
I'm going to do something similar, but hopefully wont need any other mount - I've got a Galaxy and there's a nice 'slot' in the dash near the (otherwise useless) tiny side window - some sort of flat plate should slide in there, after which I'll get my mate to machine something nice-looking to attach the butchered 910 mount straight onto.
Or rather, that's the plan! |

I would be very interested also as to what you could come up with, as I had a TTG Classic mounted to my vent and now want to mount the 910 to it instead. |
