Apologies if this has already been done to death, but I've been away from the forums for a while.
I'm still using the original UK map supplied with my Classic just over 2 years ago and am wondering about upgrading to the latest integrated Europe map.
I have a few questions:
1. With a map occupying upwards of 1GB (compared with about 100 MB for UK) what does this do to the performance? For example, does it take a lot longer to plan a route, since it (potentially) has so many more roads to choose from? Does it take longer to re-calculate the route if I deviate from the set route? If so, is the performance still acceptable?
2. Is a 1GB card big enough, or do I really need a 2GB card?
3. Does the speed of the card matter, or is the speed of reading and writing limited by the Classic itself - even with a cheap card? [Since the Classic's own memory is only 32MB, it must have to do a hell of a lot of data paging from the card!]
4. If I buy the CD version of the map (as opposed to the downloaded version) do I still get just the single integrated map, or does it contain individual country maps as well?
TIA. _________________ Roger

1. With a destination, and departure, within the UK it takes just the same. It doesn't have to look at Roads in France when calculating A-B in UK. When you use Navigate to an Address, it takes a few seconds to load the Address File, but that is the only slowing down that I have seen. Likewise there is no greater delay in re-calculation.
2. A 1GB card is big enough. There should be about 40MB free even with a lot of POI's. Voices, of course, will reduce this.
3. I believe that you need a reasonably good card, and if it's a High Speed Version, it will at least remove one bottleneck.
4. The DVD contains both the Seamless Map and each Country as a Plus Map. _________________ Richard

Thanks - that sounds encouraging.
Are you SURE about the individual Plus maps being on the DVD in addition to the integrated map? I ask because the description of the v6.6 DVD on TT's website simply says:
"Detailed seamless map fully covering Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, Monaco, Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxemburg, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. Canary Islands as separate map included. Street network coverage: 99%"
- which is the same as it says for the SD card version.
Thanks. _________________ Roger
