I see that on the Garmin website V9 maps are finally listed as being the current version. How does anyone who registered an i3 since Sept 1st with V8 maps get the free upgrade to V9?

If you purchased a locked MapSource product ON or AFTER the release date of an update, you are entitled to an unlock on the newer version of that product for free.

Release date is listed as 1st Sept 2006

As far as i can see you order the free DVD but you don't have to pay for the unlock code.

I've just tried to order the update CD/DVD from the Garmin website, but all I get is

"This Master Coupon Code does not contain any Garmin units that currently have MapSource updates available. Garmin's Automotive MapSource applications are generally updated annually and the Bluechart software is updated twice a year. Please check back periodically to see if MapSource updates are available for your Garmin unit. Click here to return to the Master Coupon Code entry screen."

As it's the first shipping day, I'll leave it a little while. BTW, I registered my unit when bought with Garmin - you'd think they'd e-mail me to say there was an update available - or what's the point of registering if the first supposed benefit fails at the first fence!

I tried earlier today too, and got the same message.

I have e-mailed Garmin to see what I need to do, and will share their response with you when I get it.

I got the same message, e-mailed garmin and got this reply:

"The version 9 mapping is going live today so you may experience the error message which you received but if you see the attached file, this has screenshots of the ordering process and has been corrected and so should be fine.

Let me know if you have any questions about the process.

PLEASE BE AWARE: the non-NT update (part# 010-10432-04), for units such as the SPIII, GPS V, etc, is now delayed to later in December and because of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

If you have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact us again.

Regards,

Rebecca Turpin
Product Support Associate Garmin (Europe) Ltd"

Followed the instructions in the attachment and still getting the same message. Will try again tomorrow.

But surely for the i3 you can't order the DVD version - you will need the Micro SD card version, as I don't believe you can update the secure section of the card with the new unlock code, so will need a new card instead...?

Certainly the v9 DVD doesn't list the i3 as a compatible model (on the website)...

You must be able to update any Garmin product with an T/F card or not. They want people to be able to update there maps, it is money in there pockets, so they won't miss a trick by over looking the secure part of the T/F Card.

Even though we are all after a free update due to buying the units after 1st September, I am sure you can still upgrade.

I am interesting in how you do it though! Smile

Sorry, should have said I can't copy the instructions here, as it's a 6 page pdf document!

That's interesting - the free v7 to v8 upgrade for the i3 involved sending the old card back to Garmin and then they shipped out a new card.

Where will i3 owners get their coupon or registration code from??? I can't even register my product with Garmin as I have only the serial number and nothing else.

If you e-mail or phone Garmin with the serial number they will give you the registration code. I had to do this, as I don't recall seeing a slip with the code on in the box the i3 came in.
