I've noticed an annoying thing with my TT 1v2.

I was in a car park and wanted to save my current position as a favourite. I did this successfully but when I try to navigate to that fav it tells me that there is no route found.
This has happened twice now.

When I'm in the car park TT displays my position as the 'middle of nowhere' about 100yrds away from the nearest road.
I take it this is the reason? If your not on a TT known road, it can't navigate to it.

If that is the reason it would be nice to have a warning when setting up the favourite. I mean its not much cop discovering the problem the next time you want to go there.

You are right, TT can't navigate to a position off-road.

One get-round you can use (to find your car in a car park, at least!) is to use "Browse Map". Make sure Favourites are ticked to show on the map, then tap the blue arrow to centre the screen on your current position and walk towards the onscreen Favourite star. The faster you walk, the better it works! Laughing

Thanks I'll remember that Smile

In this case however, it wasn't so I could find my car in the car park. It was so I could find the car park again at a future date. I was well unhappy when the next time I wanted to go there TT told me there was 'no route found'.

If TT can't navigate to an off road location or at least as close to it as possible then it shouldn't let you set one as a favourite.

OK I see...
The get-round for that would be
"Browse Map"
"Search for...." (Magnifying Glass) that Favourite
Zoom in... to find nearest road (or entrance)
"Navigate There"

Or next time, remember to tap "Save... GPS position" as you turn off the main road.

Andy - thanks for that.

I never thought of doing that. If I get caught out again, that'll come in handy.

I missed out a couple of steps...
"Navigate there" meant:
Tap screen at road or entrance (to get blue cursor),
then tap cursor button at bottom,
and then tap "Navigate there". Smile

This has explained something I found odd when I used my 910 in Florida. I saved the location of a large store car park and was most annoyed that it owuldnt take me back there. Couldn't understand why not - now it makes sense.

Roussillat is a French guy who has created several useful add-on apps for the TomTom. His program 'Offroad Navigator' allows you to navigate precisely to any GPS position, be it on or off the road.

You can get it for free here:

http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/offroad.php?lang=uk

This program is totally independant of maps, so you can use it even in countries that you don't have the map for.

Yes this explains what happened to me the other day. I set a favourite (Argos, Blyth) using the store's postcode, then sat back content in the knowledge that my TomTom would lead me there. Once I got within a few miles of Blyth I tried to navigate to it and got the 'no route found' It turns out that particular store is located slightly off road. Bummer Sad 2 sat navs and I had to ask directions!! he he 8O

I have the answer to this. I've just been over to my local Tesco store, at Handforth Dean, Wilmslow, Cheshire, to pick up the Friday night bottle of wine ( I was working until gone 10pm). I tried to store a favourite on their car park and then on a car park on an industrial park around the corner. Both locations were off a map road and as far as the tomtom was concerned I was awol in a field. In both cases it appeared to have stored the favourite but a subsequent attempt to navigate to the stored location produced the error message "no route stored" I then tried to set a favourite for my work location from a point on the map, as Mike Alder suggested, i.e. off the road on the map. This has worked. Tom Tom will navigate me to the end of the nearest road to the location I stored via a point on the map.

Conclusion: Don't try to store a GPS position as a favourite if you aren't on a road on the map.
Does the above help overcome this problem? - quote taken from other thread - Mike

That's OK if you remembered to do that beforehand, but if you've already got a favourite you can't route to, then finding it on the Browse map screen and either tapping the nearest road or walking towards it as I outlined above will get you out of trouble.
