Hi,
The itinary planner is great as i need to add several stops in a days work. However, is there anyway of getting it to work out the best order to do the stops ?. At the moment all i can seem to do is work it out myself and change the order manualy.
Many thanks |

Hi kevlarpants,
to the forum!
Unfortunately, TomTom units can not optimise a route to calculate the shortest route for a given number of stops.
As you have already used the itinerary function, have you tried to plan a a route in either Microsoft AutoRoute or MapPoint? You can save the route as an AXE File, you can use a program called ITNConv to convert the AXE File to an Itinerary File that TomTom can use.
There should be an ITN folder in the root of your storage card (if there isn’t then create one). Save your .itn file in the ITN folder on your storage card.
You just go into the Itinerary Menu on the TomTom, Select the one just Loaded and it will calculate the journey.
Download ITNConv from here.
If you haven’t got either Microsoft AutoRoute or MapPoint then you can use Google maps. Have a look at Tyre. Create a route using Google Earth and then use this program to transfer to your TomTom unit.
Warning: If you use either Microsoft AutoRoute/MapPoint or Google Earth then you have to be accurate in the location of your stop points else you will be routed all over the place.

Robert,
Am I right in assuming that the software mentioned is just an alternative method of planning a route but using a larger screen?
I mean they can't automatically plan a route either?

Hi Bodger,
I haven’t used Tyre, but I have used Microsoft MapPoint to optimise the order of stops for a route. I converted an .OV2 file into something that Microsoft MapPoint could import, I then selected which POIs I wanted to navigate to and asked MapPoint to optimise the journey. I then saved the .axe file.
I used ITNConv to create an itinerary, which I loaded onto my TomTom.
An itinerary isn’t a plan of a route in that it details each and every road and turning to use, it just tells the TomTom unit to navigate to a destination via one or more specific locations.

I can convert a TomTom ITN to an AXE OK using ITNConv but if I convert it the other way round from an AXE to ITN the ITN just shows gobblygook when you view the itinery on the TomTOM.
I use Autoroute Euro 2007 and the latest Western Europe Maps on a TomTom Rider.
Has anyone else experienced this as I would really like to get it working as it is an invaluable tool for planning on a big screen and then converting it to a TomTom itinerary. |
